Tara Goedjen wrote her first story at age nine about children disappearing at midnight, and she’s been writing and reading ever since (in fact, she used to get in trouble for “reading too much” as a kid). Growing up, her favorite books were The Talisman by Stephen King, Beloved by Toni Morrison, and We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson. Tara has been lucky enough to live in Australia, on the island of Guam, and all over the United States. The California desert inspired her forthcoming novel, NO BEAUTIES OR MONSTERS, a YA atmospheric mystery in the vein of Stranger Things and Veronica Mars, coming out this December with Random House. Before publishing her debut, THE BREATHLESS, Tara received a Master of Fine Arts from The University of Alabama and a PhD from The University of Wollongong. While completing her degrees, she worked as a creative writing instructor for universities, as a tennis coach for teens, and as a fiction editor for a publishing house. These days, when Tara’s not at her desk, you can find her exploring the outdoors, binge-watching Leigh Bardugo’s Shadow and Bone on Netflix, devouring any new release by Karen McManus, or listening to her favorite true crime podcasts like Lost in Larrimah.
