Tressa L. Bell, MBA, BSN, RN, is a registered nurse, former forensic nurse examiner, author, and survivor of childhood abuse and domestic violence. Her writing brings together clinical understanding and lived experience to explore how trauma shapes families, relationships, and the ways we learn to survive.

As a forensic nurse examiner, she sat with survivors of violence on some of the hardest days of their lives. That work gave her clinical language for things she had lived long before she had words for them. Both experiences inform her honest approach to family loyalty, relationship safety, parenting, and accountability.

Her memoir, The Fan in the Window: How We Inherit Trauma—and How We Interrupt It, explores loving people who caused harm, surviving patterns she didn’t choose, and becoming accountable for what she passes on. The audiobook is narrated by Tressa herself.

Her second book, You Can Interrupt It: A Practical Guide for the Parent Who Inherited Trauma and Swore They’d Do It Differently, brings that understanding into everyday parenting, with practical ways to recognize old reactions, respond differently, and repair when things go wrong.

She also hosts The Fan in the Window: Interrupting What We Inherit, a podcast featuring honest conversations about inherited trauma, nervous system responses, domestic violence, and safer relationships.

Tressa lives in Maryland with her husband, Jimmy. She is a mother of four, a grandmother, and still learning.

This didn’t start with you…but you can interrupt it.
