Dr. Varleisha D. Lyons (formerly Gibbs) PhD, OTD, OTR/L was born in Delaware and began her career after receiving her baccalaureate degree in Psychology from the University of Delaware. She continued her studies in the field of Occupational Therapy. Dr. Lyons received her professional degrees from Columbia University, Thomas Jefferson University, and Seton Hall University. As a former clinic owner, she had several opportunities to provide education, treatment, and research in the areas of sensory integration, Autism Spectrum Disorders, as well as family-centered care. Dr. Lyons has a doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy and a PhD in Health Sciences. Dr. Lyons continues to lecture, and provided training, on sensory processing strategies and self-regulation throughout the country. As author of Self-Regulation an Mindfulness, and co-author of Raising Kids with Sensory Processing Disorders, she has provided families with strategies to understand and care for their children. She is the inaugural chair/director of the Master’s of Occupational Therapy at Wesley College. This is Delaware’s first professional degree granting program in OT. Her passions are to provide individuals with the tools that assist both the individual and the family system. Yet, being a mother and parent brings her the most joy!
