Wolf Küper worked as a tropical ecologist in the Amazon rainforest, led research projects mapping the biodiversity of Africa at the University of Bonn and wrote expert reports for the United Nations — until his four-year-old daughter gave him the chance to ruin a textbook career once and for all. With 69 kilos of worldly possessions and a six-month-old baby, the family set off on a journey around the world that would last for years. The decision to radically change his relationship with time changed Wolf Küper's life, and his family's, for good.

His travel diary One Million Minutes became a bestseller, was translated into several languages and reached cinemas in 2024 with Karoline Herfurth and Tom Schilling. The film drew audiences in the millions and struck a nerve in the debate about work ethic, achievement culture and the long-overdue redefinition of prosperity. Because time remains a zero-sum game, and higher productivity does not automatically mean a better quality of life. In his book Nimm.Dir.Zeit, Wolf Küper therefore runs the fact-check: how much quality of life is actually possible without time? And what do you do once time has been won?

For six years he worked as a teacher and as a trainer of teaching staff at German schools in southern Africa. Today he advises organisations on time culture and works as a coach. Wolf Küper lives in Bonn and Cape Town.
