I am not afraid.

The night of summer solstice, I do something stupid. Drawn to the fire of magic, I approach the gods in their sacred circle. I am just a mortal, one of many. I shouldn't merit their attention.

But behind the royal figures of the gods a shadow looms, menacing yellow eyes burning in its gloom. He asks me to dance. His clawed hands circle my waist, turning me to the sound of hoofbeats while his demonic voice whispers seductive lies in my ear. For one night and one night only, I let him touch me.

When it's morning and gods return to their shrines, he stays. His bloodthirsty shadow follows me, a dark cloak hiding me from the sun and the light of hope. Where I walk, flowers wither and children sicken, touched by his suffocating darkness.

The harder I chase him away, the more he enshrouds me in his powerful presence, his claws trapping my body, his will reaching for my soul.

He takes away my tribe and poisons my life, trying to break me so I take his deal. But the devil is in for a surprise.

I may give him my body, but I'll never break. With nothing to lose, I am ready to fight.

Well, I have seen stubborn lovers before, but this is a discovery…(No spoilers)

I felt a little pushed around by the beginning. But the story slowly, but surely progressed and made me have so much questions. I had a roller coaster of emotions,from mild interest to straight up shock. Especially in the 10 last chapters , I was frowning and my mouth was opened the whole time. So,

Would I recommended? Yeah probably,
Would I reread it? Nope. It was too frustrating. I wanted to enter the book to knock some sense into the b!tch 😂

But don’t get me wrong though, we are still waiting for a book two.

Unique and thrilling

I could not stop listening to this- I binged it for hours on end and I could think of nothing else. It has a lot of common fantasy elements such as gods, witches, monsters- and yet the take on them is so unique, such good story telling and so fast paced that Jaga brings you on a rollercoaster of adventure and emotion- I felt just as she did in many key moments- finishing it I went through so many strong emotions- I can’t remember the last time a book tugged my heart strings and made me MAD like this one- finishing it, I cried….and I almost never cry at the end of books!
This is a lil 50 shades but feminist, not just about a man who knows where to touch and what to say but about a hurt woman, and her disillusionment and self discovery.

This is one of those powerful stories that will keep me thinking for hours, and reflecting on experiences we all have as women. Jaga is not a Mary Catherine, she’s dark and wounded and flawed- but through her struggles she discovers true values and what is really important to her.
I am astonished by this book and I could not recommend it enough.
