WALT SHIEL started school on Guam during the Korean War, graduated from high school in France during the Vietnam War, and has had four distinct careers: Air Force pilot, telecommunications engineer, defense industry engineer, and full-time writer. As an engineer, he worked on the B-2, F-22, F-35, and F-16 aircraft programs. Walt has been writing professionally since 1992 and has written military aviation history books, historical novels, eclectic short stories, dozens of published magazine articles, and two monthly aviation columns. Walt is a graduate of Michigan State University. He has lived in 12 of the 50 states, in France, and on the island of Guam. He reads, writes, and speaks French, although his proficiency has slipped in the five decades since he left France. In May 2008, he was attacked by a beaver. As Walt was armed at the time, score the encounter Walt 1, Beaver 0. Walt and his child bride have been married for 44+ years and now live on 40 acres in the back woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula with their dog, cats, and two horses, surrounded by deer, wolves, bears, and a plethora of smaller critters. They have two daughters and two grandchildren.
