Description

#1 NATIONAL BESTSELLER

A shocking exposé of the deadliest killing spree in Canadian history, and how police tragically failed its victims and survivors.

As news broke of a killer rampaging across the tiny community of Portapique, Nova Scotia, late on April 18, 2020, details were oddly hard to come by. Who was the killer? Why was he not apprehended? What were police doing? How many were dead? And why was the gunman still on the loose the next morning and killing again? The RCMP was largely silent then, and continued to obscure the actions of denturist Gabriel Wortman after an officer shot and killed him at a gas station during a chance encounter.

Though retired as an investigative journalist and author, Paul Palango spent much of his career reporting on Canada’s troubled national police force. Watching the RCMP stumble through the Portapique massacre, only a few hours from his Nova Scotia home, Palango knew the story behind the headlines was more complicated and damning than anyone was willing to admit. With the COVID-19 lockdown sealing off the Maritimes, no journalist in the province knew the RCMP better than Palango did. Within a month, he was back in print and on the radio, peeling away the layers of this murderous episode as only he could, and unearthing the collision of failure and malfeasance that cost a quiet community 22 innocent lives.

Sometimes conspiracies are true

Claiming that the RCMP are engaged in a coverup of this scale is an extraordinary claim, but Paul Palango offers truly extraordinary evidence. He decisively proves the Rcmp is lying, even though he isn't able to dig deep enough to discover the truth

Important perspectives to hear

Too many people don't want to acknowledge the truth. The author doesn't shy away from things that need to be said and probabilities which are ignored. The RCMP management has blood on their hands.

I Wish It Was Fiction....But It's Not!

Like many reviewers have said, "there are many unanswered questions". The accounts/details relayed to the public by the RCMP just don't make sense and don't line up with events. There are many revelations in the book that made me sick to my stomach but I feel that it is my duty as a Canadian citizen to listen to as much as I can about the massacres. I have spent some time watching the webcast of the MCC. The questions being asked are not tough enough!

Even if only ONE issue ( polite word for &@*$-up) is true that is one issue too many!

I felt like I was in the McCully house with those four just orphaned children waiting to be rescued and terrified out of my mind for 3.....very....long.....hours. I felt like I was hiding in the woods with Clinton Ellison after finding his brother murdered scared, cold and alone. The Narrator did a good job. He put me there. The Author did an excellent job. He put me there.

It's important! Read it!

Well written & sourced book.

What a well written book. Thank you Paul Palango for getting to the truth. Most sadden to know of the RCMP ‘s failings. Also enjoy your updates on Jordan’s podcasts.

Must read for Canadians bamboozled by red wool.

First, after listening to Paul on The Night-time Podcast I could hear his voice reading this even though it wasn't him performing it, which I adored.
Second, this book should be a mandatory read for everyone so they grasp how cover ups happen in real time and the importance of critical thinking when hearing mainstream news. Honestly, the tiniest amount of critical thinking blows all the RCMP stories out of the water.
Third, the RCMP have been the bad guys since their inception so I have no clue why people have such a hard time believing they'd do twisted stuff nowadays too. Anyone trying that hard to seem like a total good guy absolutely deserves a closer look. Seriously, the horses are ridiculous and an obvious distraction noodle to maintain favour.
Fourth, thank you Paul and sources for this extremely important book and Paul I really hope you and Sharon are doing well.

Mandatory Canadian listening

What is the RCMP trying to hide? Absolutely fascinating, thoroughly researched, and well-written.

Paul is an expert storyteller and dares to go where no other media will. Follow the story, review evidence and you will start asking the same questions Paul did.

It is so shameful that CLEARLY we still do not know the true story. And why?

The evidence does not match the narrative or timeline the RCMP touts. To ignore this insults all those people who senselessly lost their lives as GW was able to roam and murder (unimpeded) for over 13 hours.

Was it disorganization? Incompetence?

Where is the public outcry?

Amazing Research and Writing

I was captivated by the author’s research, dedication to telling this brutal and tragic story. The senseless killing of 22 innocent people. I listened to the book three times and learned something new each time.

The individuals’ stories were told honestly and with the least amount of horror for their families to endure.

The in-depth look into the actions, inactions, mistakes and out right ineffective way the RCMP handled this tragedy is reprehensible. Some were upset with the amount of time the author gave to the look into the RCMP; however, I feel this is necessary to help ensure this kind of horror does not happen again.

I feel that institutions such as the RCMP are unwilling to truly look at what was done right AND what was not done right, we cannot learn and grow so that justice can be served and justice for the victims and their families will continue to be perpetuated.

I recommend this book.
