About this listen

Now the acclaimed HBO series Game of Thrones - the masterpiece that became a cultural phenomenon

Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King's Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert's name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse - unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season. Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen's brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister - the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind.

All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms. Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki - whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.

Fantastic book

Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Narrator voice sounded a little older than expected, but didn’t take away from the enjoyment. The audio makes the story come alive. Definitely looking forward to book 2.

Roy Dotrice is the best!

Roy Dotrice is the best! Him reading this book is like your grand father telling you the most epic of tales! Very sad that he is gone!

A fantastic story, beginning to end

I absolutely loved this book. I couldn’t put it down/stop listening to it. It’s likeness to the first season of the TV show is incredible! It’s basically the exact same but just with incredible detail and vividness only reading or listening to book can give you. George Martin has a fantastic story to tell and I can’t wait to start a clash of kings.

Also the guy reading the book is really great as well. He’s got a bunch of different voices, some of them sound very similar to others but if you’re listening to the story they are easy enough to distinguish apart.

Well narrated and wonderful for road trips

As a longtime fan of the show I had always told myself I would eventually dive into the book series. However the length of the books made it a daunting task to say the least and I never seemed to have time to sit down and finish a book. Since moving cities I found myself making long commutes by myself moving between houses, so I figured that the audiobook would be the perfect way to get through the books as well as make for a more pleasant drive. The excellent narration and voices Dotrice provides keeps the audiobook engaging and I never found my mind wandering off. The story is of course top of the line with a deep and engaging lore that is surprisingly easy to grasp. Definitely recommend listening to if you have the time to get through it!! #audible1

Excellent story, ordinary narration.

Loved the book but Roy’s voices for the dialogues seemed off creating a certain confusion as to the character’s actual intent.

Good Book

The narrator sounds old AF. Turns out he is and sometimes it works amazing but not always. he's good though and the book is too

More than HBO offered

There are so many more stories in the book than the tv series. It was like I knew the characters but it was new stories.
