À propos de cet audio

Larger-than-life characters and an epic plot brimming with the energy of his internationally acclaimed thrillers make Ken Follett's A Place Called Freedom an experience not to be missed. This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it. Spanning two continents and bringing together an unforgettable cast of heroes, villains, and rebels, A Place Called Freedom is a magnificent epic of love, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Narrator Simon Prebble's masterful use of voice and pacing captures a vivid cast of characters and the powerful destiny that shapes their lives.

I did learn some interesting things about justice or lack thereof at that time which was cause for reflection on my part. But the story became tedious as the same few characters kept appearing in very unlikely circumstances. The over use of titillation is an unnecessary distraction. My first and probably last Follett read.

Not bad, not great

Mr. Folett once again tells a wonderful tale of lifes struggles and unfairness purpetuated by our species. And again I've learned historical detail I never knew. A very enjoyable and satisfying entertainment.

Folett never disappoints

The story is captivating and the narration was outstanding; the perfect tone, intonation, pace, and pauses made this narrator my absolute favorite of all time. Ken Follett is my favorite author...he never fails to deliver.

Excellent story and best narrator ever!

I have read many books by this author and I have never been disappointed. This book was historical and I learned many things about how the English, when they took over Scotland and how the Scottish were made slaves in the coal mines. It makes me feel bad about part of my heritage. I highly recommend this book. The narration was excellent as was the story.

I loved the story overall! As with all other Follett books I have listened to, he does a fantastic job of contrasting the good and evil in people. I particularly enjoyed the depiction of the struggle of that good and evil within one character, and how he came to be like that. I also really enjoy reading about different periods in time as well, and it is evident that Follett does his homework well. The narrator did a fantastic job bringing the book and characters to life. It was no surprise to find out that he is an actor. The only thing I did not enjoy was the sometimes graphic depiction of sexual interludes, which for me are unnecessary and do not add anything of value to the story. I do not consider myself a prude, but who knows … 🤷‍♀️… maybe I am🤣.

Great story and narration again! Loved it with one wee beef …
