À propos de cet audio
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux and her lover, the lethally beautiful archangel Raphael, have returned home to New York only to face an uncompromising new evil. A vampire has attacked a girls' school---the assault one of sheer, vicious madness---and it is only the first act. Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. Then Raphael himself begins to show signs of an uncontrolled rage, as inexplicable storms darken the city skyline and the earth itself shudders. The omens are suddenly terrifyingly clear. An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed.
©2011 Nalini Singh (P)2011 TantorI was glad to see more growth and layers to Elena and Raphael through the windows of their pasts. I appreciated that they had to struggle a little more and contend with what they wanted with each other.
That said, I felt that the arguments Elena and Raphael had cycled over and over. They continually stated who and what they were, yet didn’t really act on those statements. For example, Elena constantly stated she was a strong woman, but as soon as she got into trouble, she was calling to Raphael for help. Raphael kept asking Elena if she feared him, when he was doing something she would have agreed with anyway. There was a little tension in the romance but not as much as I would have liked.
The plot was fairly solid and led to an unexpected finale. The end solution was resolved fairly quickly, though I enjoyed the emotional weight put on the main characters.
The prose is still very strong, though there is an overuse of certain names and phrases that I felt could have been lessened or altered to keep the prose fresh. That said, I do think that a casual reader could pick this book up and enjoy it for what it is. I’m interested to see where the next books go!
Spicy with lots of drama
