From legendary storyteller Stephen King, whose “restless imagination is a power that cannot be contained” (The New York Times Book Review), comes a thrilling new novel about a good guy in a bad job.
Billy Summers is a man in a room with a gun. He’s a killer for hire and the best in the business. But he’ll do the job only if the target is a truly bad guy. And now Billy wants out. But first there is one last hit. Billy is among the best snipers in the world, a decorated Iraq war vet, a Houdini when it comes to vanishing after the job is done. So what could possibly go wrong?
How about everything.
This spectacular can’t-pause novel is part war story, part love letter to small town America and the people who live there, and it features one of the most compelling and surprising duos in King fiction, who set out to avenge the crimes of an extraordinarily evil man. It’s about love, luck, fate, and a complex hero with one last shot at redemption.
You won’t put this story down, and you won’t forget Billy.

Empire of the Summer Moon spans two astonishing stories. The first traces the rise and fall of the Comanches, the most powerful Indian tribe in American history. The second entails one of the most remarkable narratives ever to come out of the Old West: the epic saga of the pioneer woman Cynthia Ann Parker and her mixed-blood son, Quanah, who became the last and greatest chief of the Comanches.

Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Spector reassesses US and Japanese strategy and offers some provocative interpretations. He shows that the dual advance across the Pacific by MacArthur and Nimitz was less a product of strategic calculation and more a pragmatic solution to bureaucratic, doctrinal, and public relations problems facing the Army and Navy. He also argues that Japan made its fatal error not in the Midway campaign but in abandoning its offensive strategy after that defeat and allowing itself to be drawn into a war of attrition.

Histoire99
The year is A.D. 922. A refined Arab courtier, representative of the powerful Caliph of Baghdad, encounters a party of Viking warriors who are journeying to the barbaric North. He is appalled by their Viking customs - the wanton sexuality of their pale, angular women, their disregard for cleanliness...their cold-blooded human sacrifices. But it is not until they reach the depths of the Northland that the courtier learns the horrifying and inescapable truth.

not my kind of book

It is interesting to see some of the reviews that go against how I experienced this book. One reviewer told Stephen King to stick to horror. I don't know if Michael Connelly could write an entertaining nuanced vampire novel, but I do know Stephen can knock it out of the park changing genres. There are also several reviews that dump on the narrator. I found the relaxed delivery and different voices to be top notch. Some people don't like pauses. For me, the best speeches use pauses for effect. I was transported to another world by the synergy supplied by the author and narrator. There is one narrator that can ruin a book for me - everything sounds like an emergency. I steer clear of books by that person. Fortunately, I like this narrator. He can hit all the emotions at a relaxed pace.
I have listened to three Stephen King books. 11.22.63 was a masterpiece, Under the Dome was interesting but bloated and too long and this book. In my opinion, Billy Summers is worth your attention. I loved it.
This is my first review on the Canadian site. I have about 95 reviews with a few thousand helpful votes on the U.S. site. I scanned those reviews and there are many reviews bashing the book. These reviews indicate the book is too political, it is anti Trump etc. There is scant reference to Trump and no political diatribes. These people are just reacting to Stephen's courageous real life stand against Trump politics. I wanted to add my perspective for this review to the site - it is a good book and has hardly anything to do with politics. But, I was informed - you have to first buy the book to review it. The way some of those hit job reviews were written, I'm convinced they did not read the book. But, they must have bought it. So who wins, I think Stephen does because their hatred is so intense, they have to buy the book first before they can bash the book.
Genre switch hits it out of the park
