Great book, terrible audiobook.

Because this book references, a bunch of diagrams and charts, the author just says sea figure one. If you are using this audiobook, because you have vision impairment, you are mobile beer on foot, in a car, or on a bicycle. This could be easily addressed by just applying some descriptive practises to the figures. I ultimately cannot recommend this as an audiobook.

Profoundly Insightful

Identifies and explains in articulated detail, what separates the most successful business innovators, from businesses that also innovated but failed. Brilliant, powerful work. Several years old now, but still relevant. Considered to be required reading for any entrepreneur or business professional. Provides superior analytical framework for marketing. You simply have to read it, because your competition aready has!

can you say blue ocean one more time?

The author must have been paid a dollar for every time he said "blue ocean" because surely he can retire after this book. Good message otherwise.

A very insightful look on strategy

this book provides a very insightful look on strategy and helps companies ensure a successful strategy that differentiates them from their competition.

an excellent book with counterintuitive insights

I really love this book because it turned my assumptions on their head regarding many of the conventional wisdoms in marketing for most companies.

it's ironic that most industry experts even in Fortune 500 would probably be against most of the strategies discussed in this book.

that said it just goes to show that there is a great deal of dogma out there and that if something is contradictory or seemingly contradicted yet probably just means we don't have the understanding we think we do about such things.

Trite and Dull

This book has been heralded as a must read by so many businesses, but I found it extremely dull, boring, repetitive, and trite. The basic concept is: innovate. Well, duh. The authors definition the essential ingredients, then look at business successes that didn’t possess all of the essential ingredients. Page after page after page of business examples boiled down to “innovate” with no further explanation of what that means and how to go about doing it. I got absolutely no knew understanding from this book whatsoever.

sales force paid product placement

they have some good points about blue ocean and how to calculate it but after listening to a few of the stories and knowing what really happened they are backing it up with Swiss cheese like half the book is a pitch for Salesforce which did some borderline terrorism activities get it's growth a lot of other companies were doing the exact same thing at the same time but it was their terroristic marketing activities that led them to be the market leader.
