I really like MC's ability to steal time to develop his skills even under severe distractions, and his growth and clever ideas are what allowed him to overcome tough obstacles (as opposed to luck/plot armor). There was a bit too much monologue when he's facing tough decisions, but thankfully, those don't appear often in the book.
