I've recently stumbled upon Carlene O'Connor's series and have been eating it up. I've already listened to the first 3 (and will start the 4th next), and enjoyed them, but this one fell short in the quality department. Disregarding the shortcomings of the narrator, the story just seemed thrown together. Characters were popping up just to say they were there; it was a little too dotted with corny sayings for my liking; and a parrot thrown in for... well why not I guess.
I love Holiday specials, so I was excited to listen to it next, but had I seen this before the others and started with it, I likely wouldn't be listening to series.

The series is lots of fun but narrator of this one is not good at all. I have no idea what accent she was attempting but would have been better if she hadn't even tried. She couldn't separate characters and attempting accents made her slow pace and made characters all sound rather on the slow side themselves. Had it not been included in membership I would not have finished it so as to return

I love Carlene O'Connor's Irish Village Mysteries and couldn't wait to dive into this audible book. This is so disappointing. The accent for the characters is horrible. Not sure why Caroline Lennon was not assigned to narrate this book. I think Audible needs to have this book redone by Caroline Lennon.
I haven't completely listened to this book and will be returning it half way through.

The reader was not suitable for this. Unable to get the Irish accent or even differentiate between the different characters.
The story was a cheesy unrealistic mess compared to the author's usual full length books.

If you haven’t already gotten the Irish mystery bundles there’s two on Audible with 3 to 4 books in each. Both of them have Christmas books in them definitely read those first. This is not likely written by the author much at all other than using her characters, which is OK because they’re great characters, but it definitely feels very off compared to the others. This novel is still worth reading, fun. I would rather read this than a random cosy Christmas mystery that hasn’t made it through any editing process or screening because you can really waste your money and go wrong that way, it will be an enjoyable read however not a book you’d want on your bookshelf not a book you would recommend like Carlene O’Connor‘s Irish mysteries that she writes solo .

Wow, you really miss Caroline Lennon‘s spirited and personable narration here, the narrator really put me to sleep and made the word sound dull. However, the writing also lacked the personality and tenure of the other books and felt a bit forced clearly trying to replicate something, but became too cutesy without the authentic essence, behind it that makes the other books in the series so vivid, arresting, and charming. I only read it yesterday but today I honestly could not remember what it was about. Where is with her other books I have fond memories of.

Now, I can’t blame the author on the poor choice of narrator. She’s not horrible, but is a horrible choice for the series and I had trouble with the fake accents and the fact that she couldn’t be bothered to pronounce things the same way as the original books.

Story wise, the idea was good, but the timing was bad and doesn’t flow well with book 3 at all. It’s too close together and would’ve made more sense if it had been the year before, while she was still in school and not one-two weeks prior. There are too many things that no longer make sense in book 3 because of it.

I have become a fan of Carlene O' Connor's mystery stories. I have pretty much gone on a listening marathon and have almost gone through all of them. I think there are 2 more left. This one was a cute, short story but what I did not like was the narrator. Some of her voices sound cartoonish and that is very distracting for me. Not the same narrator as the whole series.

Very much so enjoyed this short story… It was enjoyable and fun to figure out who the culprit was… Looking forward to the rest of the series…

The narration is awful. It takes away from the whole story. It in no way compares to the other stories by Carlene O’Connor. Don’t waste your time. It’s free with subscription and still not worth it.
