Description

Having been bolstered with the supplies sufficient to carry them through the winter, the survivors of the Jackson commune must now hunker down and endure the bitter Wyoming snows, while to the south, factions are beginning to form, coalescing from the ashes of the dead world.

Out in Arizona, the leftovers of the US Military encamped in the last known surviving tent city: the Elysium Fields.

In Nevada, a clan of scavengers grows ever larger, each day bringing them a step closer to collapsing under their own weight.

Resources are becoming scarcer by the day as the world trudges on, and as it so happens, the folks up in Wyoming appear to be sitting on prime real estate....

Excellent listen. One of the best series I have found.

100 percent worth the credit. It’s nice to finally have this genre without carbon copy zombies.

Excellent

Another fantastic book in this series. I have listened to a several like this and Commune is one of my favorites! Good story, great characters and well written. Some of my other favorites series are After it happened and Mountain Man. All 3 series narrated by the master .... R.C. Bray!

Series was great until this book.

This was a great series that had pretty good characters and a fairly unique story line as far as apocalyptic novels go. This third book was a flop. Splitting the last book was a mistake. This is 17 hours where nothing real happens, it’s just setting up the next book. The whole story is jumping around and it adds nothing except maybe a tiny bit of suspense between story lines.

The best series in sci-fi for great characters.

This series is like many others in theme, after it happened for example. what sets this apart is the amazing depth of characters and the realism in personalities. the focus on personal challenges and not always defaulting to the quick easy negative approach is totally unique. As the author points out, a true leader would not be a cliche tough guy or killer. People gravitate to leadership by example and people of integrity and belief. This series is written cleverly in so many ways and as the character count grows none are without depth. you find yourself rooting for most of them and not just 15hours of good guy vs bad guy. So much to love in this series as it is world building beyond just stuff but a growing community. Amazing work by both author and the legendary RC Bray and great additions with the new characters in this particular book. My only bone to pick is that this is clearly half of what was meant to be one book and shares an arc with book four. Grateful it is coming very soon. thank you Josh. Everyone should buy this and start at Book 1.

Great Series!

I was drawn to this series after the first 30 minutes of the first book because of the incredible character development. These characters come across as normal, everyday people with the average amount of "oh duh" moments. What I love about this author is that he allows us to get to know characters as real people, even the heroes are just people. Too often these types of books are filled with groups of preppers against the evil that occupies the new world. These are not preppers and are just trying to figure things out as they go along, what I imagine the majority of us would be trying to do in similar circumstances.
C3 checks in on Wang and his progress, follows Ronnie back to his group and introduces his boss Clay. I actually like Clay a little.
Understanding from the beginning that is book is a "bridge" connecting C2 to the conclusion of the series was helpful. C3 basically positions the characters for the last book.
I enjoyed the interactions between the military members, often laughing out loud at the insults and lingo, which were so familiar from my time in the service. While Otter is interesting, I'm not convinced that someone in his position would proceed with that mission or even consider it. I think he would have seen the inevitable failure of attempting to exert force in that situation, he wouldn't have been able to pull it off long term without becoming a dictator and using the military to police the group. I'm content with the resolution and the placement of the characters at the end.

The narrator throughout the series has remained the same and that is probably my favorite part of the whole series. R.C. Bray is absolutely perfect and really brings the books to life. I was very happy to hear that he would be doing the final book. The author and narrator make a great team!

This is a great series. Well worth the time and credits. I highly recommend it.

Fantastic series

I wasn't sure I was going to enjoy book 3 as much as 1 and 2 because the story and characters broaden out, but I loved it. Obsessive Otter, villainous Robby and crazy Clay but they are much more complex than that and people in our little valley keep on trying to make home and family.
Joshua Gayou has written a wonderful multi level story here worthy of multiple readings. RC Bray has bought the story and characters to life.
There is a lot of gun talk if that interests you but it's balanced out wonderfully with tender intimate moments.
On to book 4 asap please.

Excellence on many levels

I am huge fan of PA fiction, but this one shines as one of the best series I've come across. I burned through all 3 in less than two weeks, Not your typical post-apocalyptic series, this one is more a excellent study in human nature and lessons on leadership (while still also being a fast-paced, action-packed post-apocalyptic work!). The character development is superbly done and, as someone who has listened to ALOT of audio-books, found the narration near perfect with R.C. Bray capturing the emotion and personally of each character with incredible depth and range. The hysterical, and uniquely colorful, banter of the military characters (especially, and above all others, Gibbs) is worth the read alone. Not many books in this genre have had my laughing out loud like these have, especially as book 2 begins. Well done Mr. Gayou. Very much looking forward to book 4 in audio.

Best book of the series this far.

Great, likeable characters, utter misery and hope for the future. What more can you ask for? Characters being really fleshed out, yet still more to come! I can't wait for the next one.

Best one yet!

Great series with great characters. I've never had a book that could make me laugh or make me cry. This series has done both of those things. R.C Bray delivered another excellent performance! Joshua Gayou has a lifelong fan in me!
