Description

The human soldiers stranded on the planet Paradise have been recruited into an alien legion to do the dirty jobs that the high-tech species won't do. Their first mission is to kick the enemy off a backwater planet no one cares about. It's a simple assignment, except everyone has a hidden agenda, and the planet could become a deathtrap.

Simply great.

A very very solid stand alone book for this group of characters. Great writing, with some great one liners from the "Alien " characters have me laughing out loud. Looking forward to the follow up books in this series.

No Skippy

not the same without Skippy the Magnificent, still love the series, and I I was excited when I realized there's a new book released but disappointed he couldn't find a way to bring sticky back into it,

Great official spin off.

The first few Skippyless incarnations of Expeditionary Force I was on the fence about as those other titles lacked a solid hook to keep me interested about the plight of the Mavericks characters; however, this first official spin off has finally hit it”s stride. I enjoyed this book a lot, perhaps even more then the last few books with Skippy and Joe.

What this book achieved was solidifying the development and personality of a few characters that has added the secret sauce that was missing without the presence of a certain beer can persona and his stupid monkey friend, and while not quite the same, the banter between a few sets of characters throughout kept me enjoying the whole book.

An Awesome Follow-up

I was upset when I came to the end of Expeditionary Force. I was overjoyed when I read about Mavericks. It is a perfect follow-up to an amazing series.

Can't Get Enough!

This story line is the best I've read/listened to. Before each new book comes out I re-listen to the series over and each time I can find new details that lead into the next part of the story. Craig Alanson's writing is the true embodiment of the butterfly effect. 10/10. N.W.

Decent

I listened to the whole book in one go, so it certainly kept my interest. One character in particular was hilarious. However, it's greatly lacking on the science side of things, and was too predictable.

Jates may be as funny as Skippy!

I did say 'may be', Skippy is still the best. But, Jates does have some great lines, go Mavericks! Another great story.

What a great spinoff!

Craig Alanson proves in this book that you don't necessarily have to have a shiny beer can to cause some really crazy "stuff" to happen to an unsuspecting universe at the hands of some really devious humans! I am so happy I bought this! With Craig Alanson writing and R.C. Bray narrating, what could possibly go wrong?

Excellent spinoff series

I was worried that this spinoff might suffer from not having Skippy around for comic relief. But it’s great. The plot moves rapidly and it’s even more engaging than many of the expeditionary force books. It probably helps if you’ve read the expeditionary force books, however, since there isn’t much character development in this book. It’s good if you know the characters involved.

really wanted to like this book

I love the Skippy and Col. Joe books and wanted to love the Mavericks but I can't. The plot is sooooo slow. The characters are lifeless. I really don't care about these people and I am halfway through the book.

I think what bothers me is that there is no main character. With the expeditionary force, you have Joe and Skippy. An excellent team!

With the Mavericks, it's like watching a bunch of secondary characters in the story. I need somebody I can cheer for. somebody that I can connect with. I'm not getting that here.

So....I won't be finishing it.

Great new direction for the Ex. Force!

Having listened to all the Ex. Force books, this branch of the series is off to a great start. While I miss Skippy, Nert is provides some comic relief and the interaction between the different species is pretty entertaining. Nice twist at the end!

Surgun Jates

OMG it was such a joy listening to this book. Surgun Jates with a drill sergeant sense of humor is a great new addition to these books. I loved the story, it was wild and all over the place. Filled with nail biting scenarios and tons of comic relief. This monkey is impressed

Great Book with a Great Narrator

I really recommend The Expeditionary Force and The Expeditionary Force Mavericks. The story flows well and R C Bray is excellent at creating realistic characters through voice inflection and a great understanding of how the characters fit into the plot.
