À propos de cet audio

It has been two years since the Shift - when most technology stopped working, and the laws of physics changed. Humanity has been brought to its knees. Like other survivors, Noah Henson has heard rumors of the Aelves. Among other guesses, predatory aliens seem as good as any other theory for what caused the Shift.

But for Noah, everything else takes second place to survival, sometimes even self-respect... or any sort of decency. Lawless, post-apocalypse America had forced Noah to make many difficult decisions, and he has never seemed to choose correctly. However, despite hating himself, he doesn't have the strength or the courage to change.

He will get a lucky break in a big way, through a mysterious orb with otherworldly power.

In time, perhaps Noah will find another path. And if he does die during the Shift, maybe it won't be the end of his story. Sometimes, another chance can be an opportunity for redemption.

Absolutely Fantastic

Not sure how this isn't more highly recommended. book 1 is so good I had bought book 2 a couple hours in because I knew there was absolutely no way I wasn't continuing this ride as long as possible.it's fresh and unique and fast and compelling. I don't even know what to say, possibly the best free listen in this genre?

Passable GameLit-ish Story

Blaise Corvin (with Outspan Foster) pens a tale about a young man ('Noah Henson') killed by an invading species of creatures known as 'Aelves' while in possession of a mysterious "orb".. which grants him a chance to travel back in time to relive his life using granted Game-mechanics (HUDs, Stat building, use of 'Bard' feats like "Listen" & "Jack of All Trades"). Noah spends his upbringing as an empowered faux genius "child" building an infrastructure & preparing the world for the coming Aelve attack (known as the "Shift").. eventually teaming up with Interpol and a bunch of genuine child prodigies (including 14-year-old weapons designers and 12-year-old military tacticians) in an implausible genius kid vs aliens tale reminiscent of a combination of 'Ender's Game' & 'Spy Kids'.
The writing is capable and Corvin/Foster's description skills are commendable.. but Noah is a jaw-droppingly flawless youngster for most of the book (I didn't like this pretentious kid - manipulating the Stock Market at four years old, for example). Too many aspects of the book required suspension of logic.

As to presentation: Ramon De Ocampo reads professionally with an admirable demonstration of diction, timbre, cadence, voice-acting, and tone. His delivery is imperfect, but well above-average. Tantor Audio Inc. did well in casting the book.

Altogether, 'First Song: Anthem of Infinity Series, Book One' is a well-conceived Fantasy tale executed adequately. I give the book 6.5/10 stars.
The LitRPG elements (HUD observations & acquired skills that confer powers) seem tacked-on at times and the protagonist is somewhat annoying.. but I am pleased to have found this audiobook on the 'Plus' menu. Better options beckon for your Credit when it leaves the "included with your subscription" catalog, however.

[Note: The friendship/love-life machinations in Noah's personal life are a little bit heavy-handed. Authors Corvin & Foster clearly grew up awkward geeks with dreams of being "cool"]
