easy and entertaining

great reading. story is sort of "realistic" enough (it is sci fi...) but not ridiculously full of obvious BS. reality with just enough "hey its the future" liberty taken. I hope that doesn't change in the series....

Good read

I like where this book went . The story was good the characters were solid. I wish the book was a bit longer so more of the story could develop.

Great sci-fi war story with strong female MC

I recommend this story!
It’s a strong female MC’s story of two confrontations with insurgents and witnessing the strength of the legion’s death squad. Her perspective is interesting as Marine’s major, the characters interesting. The dumb banter (pre confrontation or during respite) that other war sci-fi story overuse to my utter contempt is gratefully kept to a minimum or alluded to but not talked/written about because she is a major which I am grateful for! I liked her gunny’s handling of the marines’ private, it was quite amusing (in a colourful drill sergeant way).

For the performance, I liked the voice of the narrator. It was a good balanced voice (not too deep/throaty or high pitched). I did not get tired listening and like her use of the scottish brogue/ accent for the death squad lieutenant.

Authors should learn more about the military

The radio communication in this book was nothing like the real military it was pretty bad. The story was ok.

not the best...

The subject matter and storyline were good, but sadly let down by the narrator, she has a very irritating nasal voice and is terrible at accents-dont use that Scottish accent again!
I love this series, but not this narrator. sorry

Excellent - creative, detailed, well thought out

Really enjoyed this sci-fi. The introduction to the characters and state of the universe was well done. Very interesting hearing the story of a well written female character that doesn’t fall into the maternal role trope.

Couldn’t Finish

I traditionally enjoy this genre but this was garbage. Seriously, a interstellar, multi species civilization which fought tactically with sci-fi spit polished WW2 equipment? It’s like the authors didn’t even try. Couldn’t finish

Tedious most of the time

I expect something described as military sci-fi to be action-filled rather than action-sampled. This one does have a couple of samples of strong action but mostly I kept drifting off. Had to rewind several times to try to pick up the story and finally quit bothering, using it as background noise while I worked. I "think* it's supposed to be a character piece so spends most of its time describing/exploring themes of the protagonist. But idunno. Don't care enough to wade through it again and may not listen to the series now.

Disappointing

Jason Anspach won me over with his amazingly well-written gritty SciFi military stories about struggles on the periphery of a Galaxy in the midst of a Civil War - after I stumbled on them in my 'Recommended For You' prompt. When I saw this story - available for free - I was thrilled.
Unfortunately, Michelle C. Meyers clearly uses Anspach's vision as merely a *setting*.. offering nothing even approaching the quality of the other author's series. She follows the frontline experiences of 'Andien Broxin' - a Republic Marine Major leading a strikingly realistic Battalion-level response to Rebel insurgents on a farflung planet. The action is cinematic when offered.. but Meyers concentrates on pinpoint accurate objective logistics, promotion procedures (I'm not kidding), and personality exposition among Legionnaire & non-Legionnaire (non-elite) soldiers. The SciFi elements feel shoehorned in and the Space Opera story dynamics of the series are largely ignored.

As to presentation: Reader Kristine Hvam makes the book even worse with an admittedly capable narration.. but exhibiting an annoying nasal timbre and weak voice-acting interpretations (her Scottish accent is genuinely execrable, for example). Audible Originals Inc. didn't *completely* drop the ball when they cast this project, but this subpar performance certainly doesn't help an "average" text.

Altogether, 'Forget Nothing' wasn't a complete waste of time, I guess. It merits 4.5 stars out of 10.
For free, it provided a serviceable distraction for a quiet afternoon.. but I removed the likewise free sequel from my Library about an hour into this recording - Meyers's riff on the 'Galaxy's Edge' universe just isn't that good.

[Incidentally: The author's obsession with perspiration is odd. "Soaked in sweat..", "Sweat poured off of them as they exercised..", "Sweat dripped off of her nose and pooled on the floor.."..
It's weirdly prominent]
