Description

Galaxy's Edge contains Legionnaire through to the end of Galactic Outlaws

On the edge of the galaxy, a diplomatic mission to an alien planet takes a turn when the Legionnaires, an elite special fighting force, find themselves ambushed and stranded behind enemy lines. They struggle to survive under siege, waiting on a rescue that might never come.

In the seedy starport of Ackabar, a young girl searches the crime-ridden gutters to avenge her father's murder; not far away, a double-dealing legionniare-turned-smuggler hunts an epic payday; and somewhere along the outer galaxy, a mysterious bounty hunter lies in wait.

Galaxy's Edge combines sleek starfighters, exotic aliens, loyal bots, blasters, scoundrels, heroes, and powerful enemies in a thrilling adventure that will take you back to that magic place from a long time ago.

I would listen to RC Bray read a phone book

The title of my review may seem to take away from the book itself, but to be quite honest, the book was great. It shoved you into a whole new galaxy without apology and you are forced to play catch up. There’s no prolonged preamble to explain and flesh out the world, you are just there as a fresh set of eyes taking it all as a given. I like this form of world building. You are here to witness the story, the characters, the action and the moment. No distractions to paint the world. Your mind provides the image without hand holding. It becomes yours.

The initial story felt abandoned when you then flash forward 7 years. I wanted to know what happened to the characters we met. So it was jarring starting a whole new tale. Almost felt like it was unnecessary. But even unnecessary, it was a great introduction with tons of action and plenty of great character moments. The second story is a sprawling adventure that reminded me very much of the Firefly series, or the film Serenity for those who don’t know Firefly. (Watch it. You won’t regret it).

An ok story to be honest. Brilliant performance

Was thoroughly bored for the first few chapters. Story picked up in the last few chapters. Definitely not the best military SciFi I have read/ heard this year.

Tonally inconsistent, but largely enjoyable

As a gritty military science fiction novel, it's really quite good (though it does play very loose with the science), especially in the first half. The problem is the second half. I found the character of Captain Keel generally unlikable. I get what the authors were going for, but it doesn't work for me. Also, the way the authors treat the Legion in the first half is soundly compromised by some of the slapstick disregard for their lives later on.

R.C. Bray does a great narration. His vocal range is broad and his performance is very compelling. I find myself wanting to search for more of his work, regardless of the genre.

Damn. They finished with a serious bang...

The first half of the audiobook was interesting, then they lost me with the sudden time jumps. Once the time jumps settled down, I realized the real story has just begun and it was amazing. I thought the first part was interesting till the last half begun, then I started defecating bricks. I can promise you the story is going somewhere very interesting.

Sci-fi Fan? Listen up!

Seriously. I’ve been reading sci-fi for eons, and in the last 5 years listening on audible non stop. I drive for work so audio books galore. This series is some of the best written sci-fi out there. A bit of a slow start in part I, and yes, you do have to watch out for a couple of sections that are a flash forward or backwards, but man when the story picks up steam you can’t stop listening. Great technical writing too. Just get it! Cheers

Middle of the road.

Standard story and plot for this type of science fiction. Annoying cliche brainless officer corps frequently used in these stories. Not terrible but neither was it anything new.

bit of a disconnect between parts

this is a good space adventure but there seemed to be quite a disconnect between part one and part two. it takes a while to catch up and the ending leaves you hanging. obviously there has to be more book forthcoming but I feel as though there should have been a bridge between the two parts. the narration is masterful although he used his Skippy voice for a truly dreadful character in this book. and if you know Bray you should know about Skippy the meh by now.

As scrambled as Rex’s Memories

This book was all over the place in time, stories, flashbacks, character development, character devolution, numerous subplots, and left a lot of questions to be answered. R.C. Bray did an outstanding performance and this book series has a lot of promise; however, this particular book seems thrown together. It really reminds me of an amalgamation of Halo, Warhammer 40k, Starcraft, EVE, and Stephen Sommer’s The Mummy Trilogy. To be honest, I’m not 100% sure how I feel about this book. I want to like it, but it’s a hate/love relationship at the moment. Get it if you like sci-fi, stay away if your OCD about storylines.

Best story in a long time!

Wow... this book was the first that's kept me engaged throughout in a long time. I never got bored, it keeps you guessing and on your toes throughout. It paints a beautiful world, with vivid and deep characters with a secret or two.

War never changes.

QR: Great war story, dark humor, good first person.

From the first 10 minutes in you'll be hooked, RC Bray voices this war story perfectly. If you've ever served, you'll catch a lot of references that'll make you laugh. Even if you haven't, there is just the slightest bit of dark humor to keep the action moving. I would highly recommend it if your looking for that action book fix.

I wanted to love this, but . . .

I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. Audible kept recommending Galaxy's Edge for me, R.C. Bray is a narrator I enjoy, and at 17+ hours it was a good value for the credit. What could go wrong? But for some reason, I just couldn't enjoy this -- or even follow the story at some points. The characters are so thinly sketched that it was difficult for me to identify or empathize with any of them -- or even keep track. (It reminds me of Star Wars in that way, which seems to be the type of universe the authors were hoping to evoke.) As other reviewers have pointed out, there's a disconnect between the two parts, although that's the least of the problems. If you like compelling characters, you won't find them here. If you get confused about continuity when listening to audiobooks (as I sometimes do), don't buy this book. But is it worth one credit? Probably. I'm on the fence.

great story

R.C. Bray does it Again! Great story. At first I felt like it was all over the place jumping back and forth to flash backs for almost every character.....however you start to see all the storylines and flashbacks merge into an epic ending with a crazy cliff hanger.....ive already preordered book 2!

KTF

I've been waiting for this book for MONTHS. The story sucks you in with the first line and never lets up even if you try to tap out. Great story, great performance, and I'm ready to pre-order the next one. You get 2 books for the price of 1 credit, so stop standing around reading this review and buy it already.
