Description

Unsurpassed for their unique blend of nonstop action, daring ideas, and extensive world-building, the Foundation novels of Isaac Asimov are one of the great masterworks of science fiction. With extraordinary vision, they chronicle the struggle of a courageous group of men and women devoted to safeguarding humanity against an unyielding deluge of barbarism and warfare.

At last, the costly and bitter war between the two Foundations has come to an end. The scientists of the First Foundation have proved victorious; and now they return to Hari Seldon's long-established plan to build a new Empire on the ruins of the old. But rumors persist that the Second Foundation is not destroyed after all - and that its still-defiant survivors are preparing their revenge.

Now two exiled citizens of the Foundation - a renegade Councilman and a doddering historian-set out in search of the mythical planet Earth.... and proof that the Second Foundation still exists.

Meanwhile, someone - or something - outside of both Foundations seems to be orchestrating events to suit its own ominous purpose. Soon representatives of both the First and Second Foundations will find themselves racing toward a mysterious world called Gaia and a final, shocking destiny at the very end of the universe!

Outstanding Science Fiction

The discussions between Terminus Councilman Golan Trevize and Historian Janov Pelorat during their mission to discover the mysteriously and deliberately obscured birthplace of humanity - Earth - encompass concepts varying from evolutionary mechanistics to relativistic physics. Isaac Asimov also takes full advantage of his plot to introduce cultural/historical/environmental differences between multiple planets in a hypothetical "colonized" galaxy.
This book is exemplary of what imaginative science-driven speculative fiction has to offer. This is great stuff.

Sadly, the presentation is unspectacular. On the one hand, I am grateful that Scott Brick doesn't attempt the world-by-world dialectical differences emphasized by Asimov (Brick isn't great at accents).. but the reticence to even *attempt* it is a bit insulting: the reader clearly isn't invested in the story at all.
Combine that with the requirement to set playback speed at 1.15X for a comfortable listening experience - and we have an "adequate" narration.

Bottom line: There are undoubtedly better recordings of 'Foundation's Edge' - but this 9/10-star iteration is worth your Credit.

..Oh, and "I am NOT Angry! I AM ANNOYED!!!!" is one of the funniest petulant outbursts that I have ever heard]

Loved it

But don’t look forward to the next book. The narrator is the bad one from the second in the series. Definitely listen to the Afterward from Asimov - I learned that there are three other sets of books I need to check out that are loosely connected to the Foundation universe.

A little drawn out but worth a listen

A good story, nice continuation of the series. very drawn out however. Fat too many meaningless debates for my taste so I took to the fast forward button for the second half.
