Histoire
Neil Gaiman has long been inspired by ancient mythology in creating the fantastical realms of his fiction. Now he turns his attention back to the source, presenting a bravura rendition of the great northern tales. In Norse Mythology, Gaiman fashions primeval stories into a novelistic arc that begins with the genesis of the legendary nine worlds; delves into the exploits of the deities, dwarves, and giants; and culminates in Ragnarok, the twilight of the gods and the rebirth of a new time and people.

In a corporate-dominated spacefaring future, planetary missions must be approved and supplied by the Company. Exploratory teams are accompanied by Company-supplied security androids, for their own safety. But in a society where contracts are awarded to the lowest bidder, safety isn’t a primary concern. On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their Company-supplied ‘droid—a self-aware SecUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as “Murderbot.”

Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Terry’s whimsical humour, Neil’s clever edges
A delightful book, with slapstick humorous tones, and a compelling story line.
What happens when good and evil rub shoulders for long enough?
What if the anti-Christ had a loving upbringing?

Original but meandering
The story is original which I liked, but I think I would've preferred reading this one over listening to it. There is so much jumping around between the different characters, and I found myself wishing I had the pages in front of me to see where the breaks were. Sometimes it felt like the narration just kept speeding through, and at parts it got confusing.
The narrator was great but some of the voices started to get on my nerves, particularly Shadwell and at least 2 of the horsemen.
The plot was decent, not my favourite but this one had been in my wishlist for ages and I'm glad I finally got to it. No regrets on listening to it, but if there was a sequel I probably wouldn't read it. If I could sum it up in one word, I would say it was very British, and that will probably be enough to tell you whether or not you should use your credit on it, depending on your sense of humour.

Listened to it after watching the TV series
I own a paper copy of this book and read it in advance of watching the TV series recently (to this review) released. So I have to say that this review might best be taken with a grain of salt.
This is a fun story. Consuming it in three different ways in the course of a week, each time enjoying the work, catching different details, perhaps warns of how much I truly enjoyed it. I originally read the book years ago (when it was first released I think, if not then shortly after) and then a couple of times since. Terry Pratchett remains one of my favourite authors and Neil Gaiman isn't much further down the list.
We have the story woven from two authors, each bringing their voice to different aspects of the whole. In the book there isn't as often a jarring shift when we have the Tadpole village sections (which others have attributed to Terry Pratchett - I cannot say if their assessment is true or not) to the Angel/Demon team-up trying to save the world story aspects. The TV series wasn't quite as smooth as the book, trimming the story a touch to shape it in what is half the duration of the audiobook.
So we have more time with each of the minor characters, almost all getting at least three appearances in the book. We learn about the other four horsemen of the apocalypse and other details of humorous intent.
I enjoy the story a great deal. Having the ability to listen to it while I work on other things was great and I know I will return to this story at least once a year. The reading here is great and I had no issues at all with it. Overall, if you watched the TV show - the book is better. This is a great way to get the book.

Too many asides
Every time this story makes progress, it takes ten side trips down some random story lane. The story starts with "someone is missing and they must find him" and 4 hours later we still haven't fully even started that single plot thread because we got tied up in everything else. Feel like the story has ADHD.

The worst narration i have ever heard.
The narrator makes this book unplayable. Pretentious and grating he ruins the story. The book seems like an interesting read but i couldn't push past half with the dreadful narration.

At long last!!
I have had this book in print format since 1990 and have probably read it at least 15 times. It has always made me feel better when I was a little depressed and I have been waiting for it to come to Audible US even since I saw it on the British Audible website (www.audible.co.uk). It is a wonderfully funny book with much to say about what we call "the human condition" and I love it, but I feel I should warn potential readers that the humor is decidedly British. When my sister read this book her comment was that she thought it was trying to be funny, but she kept missing the point of the jokes. So while I strongly recommend this book, that recommendation is mostly aimed at those who understand and appreciate British humor.
I have only one complaint about the way this book was read. Martin Jarvis should have paid more attention to those places in the book where line spacing was used to separate different threads of the story. Normally readers, when coming across those kind of breaks, supply their own silence to let listeners know that a different story thread is picking up, but Mr. Jarvis often runs directly from one thread to another without supplying any audio indication that the story line was changing. This is a minor point, but I found it annoying at times.
With the above caveats I heartily recommend this book to any Neal Gaiman or Terry Pratchett readers!

You'll laugh yourself silly
My husband asked me for a brief description of "Good Omens". My answer: This book is what would have happened if Douglas Adams had written Rosemary's Baby. The end times are coming, and the angel Aziriphale and the demon Crowley aren't happy about it. So they try to find and stop the 11-year-old antichrist, but find out that he was misplaced (and turned into a nice kid). Along the way, we meet Satanic nuns, a bicycle-riding witch, a hellhound who's actually a nice doggie, and the four horsemen of the apocalypse re-imagined as a biker gang. Too much fun!

Satisfyingly Hilarious
The best of two worlds - Pratchett and Gaiman - combine smoothly to form a seamlessly great story. Very enjoyable, start to finish. You will laugh out loud so many times, it should be required reading/listening for sad people. And they aren't cheap laughs - the social commentary and observations on human nature leave you satisfied and shaking your head with their cleverness.

Wish I could be more positive!
I must have missed something here. Most all reviews and ratings of this book are fantastic. I don't get it! It was supposedly hysterical..... The author put so much into this book and I feel bad to say that it did nothing for me. "laugh out loud".... not at all for me. I finished this book because I made myself. I feel bad giving it a thumbs down, but that's the way it is!
The voices and accents in the audio version are fantastic and are what got me through.
My rating and review are very much in the minority. I wish I knew why!

Beautifully done
I read this book in print form as a major fan of Terry Pratchett, and frankly only managed to get through it by trying to pick out the parts that Terry Pratchett wrote.
Listening to this book, however, is a completely different experience. The narrator is fantastic, and the story just takes shape, gripping you with characters which just burst to life and set you laughing out loud, looking like a crazy person to everyone on the bus. This happens to me quite a lot, though, and if you can't take a joke by now, you're not worthy of this book.
I fear I will never be such a Neil Gaiman fan as I am a Terry Pratchett fan, but I can say that Gaiman's books translate into audio far better than Terry Prachett's, and I highly recommend them.

What a pair
If you like Neil Gaiman, and if you like Terry Pratchett, you're going to adore this book. What a great pairing of authors and a wonderful narrator. There is enough snarky humor in this little story to go around to the Brits and the Americans. It's well written, made me laugh out loud and I couldn't wait to get to it each day. If you don't enjoy British humor, you may not enjoy this book or understand the subtleties. However, anyone who can make you laugh at the Apocalypse and has the Four Horsemen on motorcycles is awesome in my opinion. Well done!! Thank you Mr.s Gaiman and Pratchett! Do another one please?

Hillarious!
I've read this book a few times, but as a trucker need something to help focus and stay awake on looong night time drives. This book fit the bill perfectly...well almost, Martin Jarvis does a wonderfull job giving the characters life but I didn't like Adams voice,he sounded kinda snooty, not how I heard it in my head at all. Otherwise this book is laugh out loud funny and a nice moral tale with an out of control tailspin.Loved it

So Twisted and Delightful!
This was extremely entertaining. I may be one of the few who have read nothing else by either Pratchett or Gaiman, but I love satire and especially religious satire. This was a lovely, hilarious scenario of the arrival of the Anti-Christ, in a contemporary, average, small town in England. Without restating the synopsis, I would just like to recommend it highly for the attention to detail, the interpretative creativity of Biblical events and personages, and the ideology of humanity that emerges behind it. It is as funny as Monty Python, certainly, but also somewhat deeper - tender and serious at times as well. Great narration, especially of several of the scarier Horsepeople of the Apocalypse. I recently re-listened, and it is just as good the second time. As a matter of fact, I probably picked up some nuances I missed the first time through.

Of course, "Good Omens" is an easy choice for any shopper. If you haven't read it before or especially if you have, the audiobook is a pleasure to listen to!
Once I heard Martin Jarvis reading in the character's voices, I can no longer imagine their voices any other way. Jarvis hits the nail on the head with Aziraphale's mild personality and Crowley's "flash bastard" attitude.
My only problem is the lack of a distinct pause between scene changes. As the book does this often, I quickly got used to paying attention to the new scene. It would certainly not dissuade me from buying the audiobook.
