À propos de cet audio

The first novel in the Forerunner Saga trilogy by science-fiction legend Greg Bear - set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times best-selling video game series!

One hundred thousand years ago, the galaxy was populated by a great variety of beings. But one species - eons beyond all others in both technology and knowledge - achieved dominance.

They ruled in peace but met opposition with quick and brutal effectiveness. They were the Forerunners - the keepers of the Mantle of Responsibility, the next stage of life in the Universe’s Living Time.

And then they vanished.

This is their story.

I personally really liked the book. The characters were all different and likeable. The voice artist had a wide range of voices, where only a couple times I didn't know who was speaking until the book told me.

The book gives good explanation of certain aspects of Forerunner culture that seem other worldly today (like the Domain for example). The explanation of the first location (the island) however is really confusing. I may of missed some key details but I could never grasp what the true look of the island was in my head. it was pretty frustrating but at the end of the day isn't a breaking point at all.

My only gripe about this book, is that it's fairly slow and nothing really happens in it until the last 8 or so chapters. The most interesting stuff throughout the whole book is the main character going through memories of past ancestors. Even though I think this is a slow build up book, it clearly sets up the next 2 in the trilogy which I'm confident will be more action packed, due to all the tedious explaining of forerunner culture thouroghly explained in Cryptum.

I love Halo and can't wait to see where the next book takes me.

A Good starting point for this trilogy!

I love HALO and its stories. Never finished this story after having had the physical and E-book version since they came out! Always liked the synopsis, but could never fully grasp all of its core material. Having it read to me as a truck driver who has more time to listen while on the road, I finally went through the whole story and loved it. Intrigued to begin the second part. Thank you, Mr. Bear ;)

Finally finished!

Absolutely stellar book, can’t say enough good things about it. Holter Graham does an incredibly job acting out the story, too, enough that I’d recommend the audiobook even if you’ve read Cryptum before.

Required reading for Halo fans

I really enjoyed it. I think it could be a a confusing read initially with all the heavy science fiction and expanded lore. Many times I needed to rewind to listen again to chunks of the novel. I recommend it as a really engaging Sci-fi story as well as a Halo novel.

The reader does sound kind of monotone in his delivery. Each character has a similar voice. I found if I was a little distracted I would miss a character change.

Very engaging story

This book is the very definition of a slow burn. It REALLY trudges and spins its wheels at the start but by the midpoint you can feel the sense of dread building and then it seems like all h*ll breaks loose in the last 10 chapters or so. It's a great story about how far you'll strip away your morals to keep yourself and others safe.

Takes a while but it gets there...

This book does contain interesting lore about the halo universe, but I did find it to be far slower and less exciting than the other halo books I've read. there were numerous instances or events in this book that took several chapters to describe, I was hoping for more exciting events, battles, or pieces of lore that would have me struggling to put the phone down and go to bed, which was something I had to do with the previous books, halo evolutions specifically. But overall, though I believe it to be drawn out, it's a good book to read if you're as thirsty for halo lore as I happen to be.

little drawn out, but has good lore.
