As a French person passionate about fairy tales and classics, I find that Stephen King adds his own touch by retelling the fairy tale as if it took place in the dark ages, while still respecting the old rhymes. It’s nothing extravagant, but Stephen truly seems to enjoy sharing his passion for spooky stories — as we know from It and The Shining.

As he explained himself, he couldn’t change very much, but he kept the essential parts of Hansel and Gretel in both the fairy tale and the opera adaptation. With Sendak’s illustrations and ideas, he shaped the story through his own imagination and vision of the classic tale.

I think he deserves great respect as an author and storyteller. You’re welcome to listen to his work — I enjoyed it very much. Thank you, Mr. King.
