Jason arrives at a kingdom in peril and he's surprised to discover that it's not his job to save it.

With the authorities fulfilling their responsibilities (for once), he looks forward to some quiet time to rest and recuperate.

The locals might not find ceaseless monster onslaughts and an interdimensional invasion relaxing, but Jason has had a rough few years. He's doing his best to let go of his anger.

While his team is caught up in duty, Jason has no shortage of people looking to interfere with his rest. Enemies—old and new—are circling, and even would-be allies are trouble. A princess finds him inconveniently alive, an ancient king arrives at his barbecue, and the local Church of Fertility are uncomfortably enthusiastic about including him in their practices. As his friends strive to reach him from the far side of the world, they are all frustrated by obstacles.

Jason is finally back in the world he longed for, but he is not the same man he was when he left. As the pressure on him mounts, allies and enemies alike will find that out the hard way.

I was unsure when I started the series. I am not much of a gaming kind of guy but I have really enjoyed this series. It has my kind of whit and dry sense of humour I constantly catch myself laughing out loud.

I really enjoyed this entry into the series. Here's a quick list of pros and cons:
(+) Great emotional pay-off for the long-awaited reunion
(+) Very natural and clear character progression for most of the major characters
(+) Everything you loved about this series is continued on

(-) The great big awesome battle at the end is EXTREMELY rushed. For such a climactic event you would expect a lot more time spent on it. The battle has four-five different parts to it and only gets three chapters totaling less than one hour. It just feels like Shirtaloon ran out of time and just rushed through a sequence that deserved A LOT more detail.

The ending was rushed, but still a great addition!

This author Writes this character extremely well. The story flows, one chapter of the series is over, and back to a new adventure in an old place. Very well written

Finally back to monster fighting mania. Great book and amazing performance. Really similar to books 1-3. Glad we’re done with the little segment from books 4-6.

Following Jason through his journey continues to reveal a thought out developement of character, story, and World. The friends and enemies around Jason are distinct, which the narrator handles perfectly. Seldom have I become as emotionally invested in a character and those around them as with this series.

This was so good. I love this series so much, and I'm appreciative of Travis for sharing his stories with us. Heath is amazing and I could've image this series without him.

I am never disappointed with this series, been excited for Jason's return to the world of magic for awhile and it was delivered better than I had hoped.
