Description

Imagine the worst thing a friend could ever do.

This is worse.

When Mel receives an unexpected email from her oldest friend Abi, it brings back memories she thought she had buried forever. Their friendship belonged in the past. To those carefree days at university.

But Abi is in trouble and needs Mel’s help, and she wants a place to stay. Just for a few days, while she sorts things out. It’s the least Mel can do.

After all, friends look out for each other, don’t they?

I Invited Her In is a blistering tale of wanting what you can’t have, jealousy, and revenge from Sunday Times best-seller Adele Parks.

Absolutely Fabulous

Adele Parks writes a awesome book once more! So much of this book I could relate to and she had me giggling out loud quite a few times. Joanne Froggat makes this audible book, I absolutely love her reading to me, I get so engrossed that my cleaning day goes by in a flash. Great writer, reader and story, thank you

Good listen but predictable.

it was a good story but every twist and turn was predicted. There was no shock not one. If this was a physical book I would have given up half way through to skip to the end to see if my prediction was correct, which it would have been and disappointment would insue. This reader used great influction with her voice.

Excellent story, highly recommend

This book is excellent, well thought out and it unravels at a steady pace, as it’s quite long (although, after the book there is an hour long interview with the author which is very interesting and enlightening). The story is hands down domestic noir with hints of mystery and thrill. You’ll figure out or be able to speculate what’s happening early on but this might be more of a strategic intention by the author. This works for the plot because the mysteries in this book aren’t to find the truth or who did what or what exactly occurred — its suspenseful because you’re on eggshells wondering when and how the characters will react. There were times where the characters were irritating and I couldn’t stand them, but I think it just speaks to good writing as the character development is vast and thorough so all their decisions and actions make sense. Lastly, the narrator does a phenomenal job of narrating and projecting poignant emotions and attitudes.

Not suspenseful enough

I love Joanne Froggatt. I bought this book because of her. Domestic suspense is one of my guilty pleasure genres. I thought I would love this book. However, I was really disappointed. It was extremely predictable, no real twists or suspense. It did hold my attention because I felt like I was waiting for the other shoe to drop, which never really did. And I thought the attempt at character redemption at the end was lame, it didn’t fit in at all with what we were shown throughout the book.

meh

Let me save you some time without spoiling anything. Melony lets an old friend from school move in with her and her husband. She hasn't seen her in 17 years. Now, skip to chapter 30 or so.

Joanne Froggatt!!!!

Is the best narrator ever in my book. I saw this book in my recommendations and I almost overlooked it because the art they chose looked cheesy but as soon as I saw Joanne F was the narrator I didn’t even read the synopsis I bought it immediately as the last and only book she narrated was so darn good! I listened to it in two days, a record I think!

This book filled me with rage so much so I was shaking at times in fury. And thankfully no one was at home when I was yelling at the characters while cooking dinner! This book brings a whole new meaning to the adage ‘hell hath no fury...’

The narration is top notch, but the book itself is a slow burn and I actually think it could have been edited much shorter. For the first half I was wondering if they were ever going to get to the meat of the story, but when it does it’s a wild ride. I had to keep telling myself it’s just a book because I was entirely too embroiled in the story. The concept was new to me which was refreshing because so many thrillers these days go by a similar formula and insist an implausible twist is what readers want. This book is worth a credit for Joanne’s narration alone!

A Great Listen

Even though I found the book predictable, I really enjoyed listening. The characters were so well developed. It felt like I knew them. The plot was also very well thought out and put together. The book is long but didn't feel slow. I'd say it's worth the credit.

Good story and awesome performance.

Joanne froggart did a fantastic job again. The story was interesting and Joanne made me feel like I was watching a movie more than listening to an audible. Definitely recommend.

Don’t miss “I Invited Her In”—a great Book!

Mel invites a friend from her past to come and stay at her house. When Abi comes to stay because she has been hurt by her husband it is exciting and fun until the twists begin. The twists are fantastic! It is a great book-hard to put down and is worth every cent!

An Interesting Complicated Story

I really enjoyed the characters in this book. The book definitely held my attention. Many different types of relationship dynamics are explored throughout while the characters struggle dealing with real life issues.

Well Done, I will Be Reading More From Adele Parks

'I Invited Her In' is a wonderful title for this novel. I was very impressed with Ms. Parks writing style as this is the first one of her books I have listened to.

A wife and mother of three allows an old college friend to come and stay with her as she's down on her luck and in the midst of a divorce. The problem is, her house guest has another reason for staying with her old friend. As the story unravels, tension sparks, tempers flare and a once-tight-knit family is on the verge of destruction.

What I liked most about Parks is that she made the villain of the story sort of likable. For the first time, I felt like the villain had a reason to be angry. I enjoyed the characters and the entire story, and I am looking forward to reading more from Ms. Parks.

couldn't even finish

ughhh. this could have been such a twisted, psychological thriller but the story fell absolutely flat. it was terribly executed. i actually grew to dislike the main character, melanie. i had no love for her. there was no creativity in the writing and many scenes in the book were just useless and boring. the rain fell on this spark before it could do anything. i couldn't even bring myself to finish it. literally, i have maybe a few chapters left, but guessed the entire plot right in the beginning. and like i said, the story was just told in such a boring way. very disappointed. would not recommend.
