Description

‘I keep feeling like I’m being watched - dropping the boys off at school, choosing wine at the supermarket - but when I turn around there’s nobody there....’

When single mother Darcy’s son falls from a rope bridge at a local playground, life stands still. She clutches his small, limp body, frozen, until a pair of strong hands push her aside, and she watches as George, a local doctor, saves her son’s life.

George, with his twinkling hazel eyes, easy charm and lack of wedding band is almost too good to be true, but coffee becomes lunch, lunch becomes dinner, and soon they can’t go an evening without seeing each other. When he invites her to move into his beautiful home with its sprawling garden for her boys, Darcy doesn’t hesitate.

But as Darcy is settling in, she receives a bunch of flowers with a chilling message.

George says they’re from an obsessed ex-girlfriend, Opal, and days later Opal turns up at Darcy’s son’s football match. She claims to have shocking information that could threaten George’s custody of his daughter.

Darcy doesn’t know whom to trust, but she’s starting to suspect that, whatever the truth, she might have put her beloved boys into terrible danger....

From the million-copy-best-selling author K.L. Slater, this utterly gripping psychological thriller will make you gasp out loud as you race towards the unforgettable twist. If you loved The Girl on the Train and The Wife Between Us this book is for you.

Narration was great

.....but the story was ridiculous. The circumstances, coincidents, and chain of events, combined with the 'Mills & Boon' characters - particularly the crazed sister in law and the dashing square jawed doctor - were so implausible and it made this supposed psychological thriller into a mish mash of comedic events.

I mean seriously, if this were a movie it would be in the style of a Mel Brookes farce. WHAT!? THAT WAS HER BROTHER! Hahahahahahahaaaaa!

Two many twists

All thrillers aspire to an unpredictable twist, but this one goes too far in trying to create twists by building an unbelievable story. There are too many holes and unlikely situations. I had a hard time finishing this book. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Just ridiculous

Overanalyzed and explained albeit unbelievable and stretched out plot line. Written by the worn out tools of psychotrillers depicting long suffering good hearted women who will have the upper hand and final justice whatever it takes
Save yourselves from misery . I wish I did.

Far fetched, unlikely story.

Despite Lucy Price-Lewis's narration, flawless as usual, the story is so implausible I had trouble finishing the book. The main character acts irrationally, the so-called twists are crude and obviously contrived to keep a weak narrative going - in a nutshell, skip this one.

Awful

Convoluted & boring at the same time. I am really losing faith in Audible. Their recommendations have been terrible & I am no longer able to make returns. Think I’ll stick with podcasts for a while.

Very Enjoyable

This was my very first Audible book. Picked it without ever hearing of this author. I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Well written with many twists and turns. Great story. The narration was superb. Wonderful voice.

Watch out for the nice guys.

Enjoyed listening to a familiar story that often occurs to women even today. Thank you.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

This novel was entertaining albeit slightly predictable. This is my second KL Slater listen and, I’m not ashamed to say, I’ve put all of her other stories on my wish list.
My heart was all in for poor Darcy. I do love a happy ending. This story might not have had the typical “happy ending” but a happy ending it did have.

Not Slater’s Best

I liked the first few of Slater’s books but the last two I listened to, including this one, seemed off. Like she was trying to hard. It’s a bit all over the place with too many unconvincing twists. It just wasn’t believable at all. It was a drawn out story just for a unconvincing ending . LPL is a fabulous narrator though! I absolutely love her.
