Every new project (or job, or hobby, or company) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point: really hard, and not much fun at all. And then you find yourself asking if the goal is even worth the hassle. Maybe you're in a Dip: a temporary setback that you will overcome if you keep pushing. But maybe it's really a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better, no matter how hard you try.

So how do you navigate this new landscape and come out on top? Adam Grant, Wharton organizational psychologist, went to the World Economic Forum in Davos, the epicenter of power, and sat down with thought leaders from around the world, to find out.

How many self-help books are written by authors whose biggest success is selling self-help books? Three Simple Steps is different. Despite stock market crashes, dot-com busts, and the specter of recession, the author started a virtual company from home, using a few thousand dollars of his savings. A few years later, without ever hiring an employee or leaving his home office, he sold it for more than $100 million. As the economy slipped into another free fall, he did this again with a company in a different field. He accomplished this through no particular genius.

Description
Are You Ready to Raise a Ruckus?
You're probably good at your job, maybe even great. But secretly, do you yearn to fly higher? To challenge the rules and surprise us with something remarkable? To instigate delight, connection, and real change? To choose better over safer?
Business and cultural visionary Seth Godin has transformed the terrain of marketing and commerce more than once. But many of his readers remain stuck in their own work lives. So what's keeping us back? "The problem isn't a lack of knowledge or skill," he's realized. "The problem is fear." With Leap First, Seth Godin is here to help. This immersive audio program invites us to learn with him personally, unrehearsed and in the moment, as he shines a light for us, not with answers but with questions on the road to:
- Overcoming our instinctual resistance to risk and change
- Discovering our creative genius in the face of the empty page or whiteboard
- Finding the courage to share that work - with vulnerability, generosity, and results
Recorded in an intimate gathering of aspiring entrepreneurs, writers, and leaders, Leap First teaches us 49 essential principles, practices, and life lessons that have helped Seth the most in his own work and life. More than an audiobook or keynote speech, each track here presents a carefully chosen catalyst intended to trigger our own passion and insight with each listening.
"It always feels too soon to leap. But you have to. Because that's the moment between you and remarkable. I hope this helps you return to that edge. And then, to leap."

My go to recording, when I’m down
This is Seth Godin at his best. This is the type of recording you you will want to revisit over and over again, especially if you have self doubts about being creative.
The recording is the perfect length. The lessons and ideas are very uplifting. I wish I discovered this years ago, but I am very happy that I finally found it.
Listen with an open mind. Apply the ideas to your life and start a rucks. #Audible1

Wisdom sprinkled across an important lesson
I'm currently struggling to stick to doing my best creative work recently and this book helped me realize i fall, as it explains, into one of the many traps of putting off our best work to do busy work instead. I always trick myself into this cycle of starting my best work but then constantly jumping into other projects at the same time.
This is a great book if you're in a similar lost situation with yourself and your creative work and a perfect reminder to act like a professional and always do your work regardless of literally everything else that creates an excuse for you.

Great content but audio needs to improve
Any additional comments?
Seth is great but his content deserves better production work. I have 3 audio books from Seth with subpar audio quality. I know Seth himself don't really care about audio quality as he mentioned in his speech but it does make a difference. With proper loudness normalization and equalization, they can sound a lot clearer especially when you listen while walking on the street or driving.

This is a book for people who want to make a difference but are sitting on their hands. It a good kick in the pants. It is honest about what the opportunity is for us, the reasons we avoid shipping and what we can do about it. I listened to it four times in a row and then I went to work on a long shelved project. Compelled to make a habit of creating without fear
Seth points out our habit of fear in response to the natural call to create. He reminds us of cultural processes put in place that supports factory readiness, which is a call to conformity and recitation. We miss so much joy in life by fearing to respond to a craft in a personal way. And we cheat the world.6
