Description

The best selling six-books series is now complete! In video games, players hunt monsters.

But what happens when a veteran player finds himself on the monster's side?

Oren, a high-level guild master, wakes in the body of a lowly goblin. Cast out, betrayed by his most trusted advisors, Oren is stuck in New Era Online. However, there are advantages to being on the monsters’ side. Starting from scratch, he’ll have to build up a powerful monster clan to take revenge. But first, he'll have to survive long enough not to be someone else's fodder.

Life Reset is the first book in the bestselling fantasy LitRPG series that follows a monster main character who wields darkness-based magic. Includes heavy elements of town-building, raising a monster clan, magic, powerful enemies, and asking the deep existential questions of what it means to be alive inside a digital reality.

When is the next one coming?!

Absolutely great. The story is solid, captivating and has complex layers. The character is well defined and has a long way to grow into the "good evil" that he is. In a sea of litrpg genre stories available right now this one is a must to listen to. Cant wait till the next series comes out.

Ok

As far as length goes, this book is longer and offers more time for your credit than other LitRPGs which are normally in the 12 hour range. The issue is it just isn't a captivating story. It has a unique start, and I was invested for awhile. But by the time the mc is meeting with lawyers and learning about what he needs to do to get out, I was done. Lost interest.

I apologize to the author that I can't point at any one thing that lost me, I just lost interest.

My second LitRPG

This is my second LitRPG series and it is a bit underwhelming for me. The idea of the story is good but I found the main character a bit annoying. I’m not sure if I’ll continue this series or try another one.

Loved (almost) every minute of it

If like playing DnD, Skyrim, Fallout any RPG with a character sheet, this book is for you. It's goblins and ogres not raiders and wastelanders.

I was hesitant at first, I had never read a book of this type but I sure have played a heck of a lot of RPG. So glad I took. a chance. The story was great, characters were well rounded (not in the attribute sense).

The narrator? OMG what a fantastic listen he was. This book has many characters that speak often, he nails all of them. Even all the female ones. Well worth whatever I paid for it.

An enthusiastic 10/10!

decent story dragged down by game mechanics

Narration is awsome and the premise of the story isn't bad. The characters have potential but are under utilized, mostly used to deliver reports and follow orders. This story could have been awsome but the balance is terrible. The biggest issue is its heavy reliance on game mechanics and tedious prompts. The main character checks status pages and looks up whole character sheets from his ppl just to see a single skill increment rather then just remarking on the improvement. The next thing to ruin the flow is the god awful resource management. I swear the author has the character spend 1/4 of the time in menus usually managing his meat. Literally took the most boring game elements and forgets the fun stuff like adventure and combat. Death is meaningless for most of the book as even tho hes in the game he still respawns. Why any author doing this genre uses respawn is strange, where is the suspense if death has no meaning for anyone that matters?

Lastly it has my least favorite Male protagonist one that's scared of women hes interested in being close to him when they try and denies himself his own desires because its not "right". How many guys wouldn't be interested in romancing a girl your into cause it's a game? Ppl complain when there favorite game companions aren't romance options in non vr games and this protagonists is an unmarried gamer like hes turning down any female companionship. I do appreciate it not going the harem route like heroic villain but cant we find a natural middle between hugh Hefner and the eternal virgins.

Fantastic performance

I loved this book. It's a wonderful fusion of video gaming and fantasy and I've never come across a book that could give a character multiple dpths the way this book does. Having a lead character who is experiencing a fantasy world through the prospective of a video game wonderfully captures how I feel playing traditional RPGs and your attachment that grows towards every little thing. I can understand that it may not be for everyone as the listing of character stats and resources can be tedious or boring, but for me these are the things I love in video games. The writer created a world that felt so much like a real game I truly want to play. To boot, the reader was fantastic. There were so many unique voices that helped me immediately invision every character without needing to name them for me to know who was speaking. The subtle sound texturing through out was never jarring and helped me feel more in the world. This is probably one of the best audio performances I've come across in the 30 or so books I've listened to on audible.

All Hail Our Tiny Green Overlord!

Oren was one of the first players in New Era Online, an immersive virtual reality MMORPG. He leveled up in the game until he was a highly influential player, the head of the top guild in the game, with an impressive number of prime badges. All that is taken away when Oren is betrayed and a powerful scroll spell is used against him. Oren wakes up as a tiny green goblin in the unexplored Deadlands of New Era Online.

Determined not to delete his character, Oren decides to continue to play as a goblin and wreak his revenge. To do this, he needs to build a goblin city in the Deadlands and take the fight to the players who betrayed him.

If you're a fan of this genre, you know what to expect. The main character takes on quests, level grinds, improves his stats, and interacts with the game. This book has all that and more. There's really something for everyone here. If you love stats, this book is full of them, Oren's personal stats, the stats of his goblins, his building stats, resource stats, you name it. If you love city building, this is the book for you. You can just settle back and watch him build his new village, weighing food production needs against resource management, watching everything move at a realistic pace. And if you like combat, there's some of that too, as Oren defends his new settlement and takes out those threatening it.

I was genuinely invested in Oren and his progression. In the beginning, he made some frustrating bonehead decisions, and tried to explain why the mistakes actually worked in his favor. But by the end, his struggle to hold everything together made him really likable. There's some other characters I can't wait to see more of. It's going to be interesting to see where the series goes from here.

Jeff Hays did an awesome job with the narration. He has an impressive number of different voices for the characters, and is consistent with them throughout the book. He also has a realistic female voice which I always appreciate. He made the book a pleasure to listen to. I requested a copy of the audiobook, and I'm voluntarily leaving a review. I'd 100% recommend this book to fans of the LitRPG genre.

A great adventure

I am not usually into these types of litrpgs, where the world is a game and everyone knows it. But this story is a great take on this type of world.

Well written, funny, smart with lots of action and twists. its a hefty read at 25 hours as well. Shout out to the sound editors and the narrator who do a great job bringing the story to life.

I, for one, welcome our new green overlords and eagerly await the next book.

Above the cut

This is another one of the few LitRPG series on audible that is truly well written and more importantly seems to have actually been edited.

If you're like me and love classic LitRPG, but can't bare to face-palm your way through another unedited string of beginner writer's mistakes then you know what I mean.

This book actually deserves the 5 stars.

decent premise in serious need of editting

the good: interesting premise. A slight twist from the standard new game super AI standard. If you like litpg you'll like the premise

the bad: the exposition was painful at times. he would explain something and comment on the logical nature of the exposition. like telling a joke and telling your audience it's funny. the story uses the game company as an evil corporation and a lawyer comes in to get him to sign documents to relieve them of culpability. this section is loaded with exposition and reeeeally bad legal theory that is laughable. I almost asked for a refund at that point but trudged on. The love interest with a goblin AI is weird not because of the computer human aspect but because the goblin has little intelligence. basically mentally handicapped. luckily it isn't a primary plot imo.

overall I wish a professional editor had gone over this with butcher knife and carved out the bad parts because there is a decent story in there. just a lot of unnecessary exposition and clunky side plots that feel awkward.

way too much reading and rereading of stats and resources. I ended up forwarding through chunks the book to avoid this boring filler.

Too many adverbs

Started out well but had to stop listening. So many adverbs it was driving me nuts.

"What are you talking about," he said incredulously.

"Don't tell me what to do," he said angrily.

"We did it," he said cheerfully.

These aren't straight from the book but you get the point. A bit disappointing because the story was interesting.

Not worth the time.

An "expert" gamer struggles with basic city building mechanics. Fails to utilize a system that allows him to design his own spells effectively. most of his strength coming from the fact hes a boss and not his own merit. has an epiphany moment of standing up instead of being pushed around by stronger forces, then immediately goes back to getting screwed over. I could go on but not worth it. hard pass on this book.

Surprisingly great! Good design.

A very fun and very long first entry in what i hope is a many book series. I usually avoid litrpgs where the people can log out (which most of them can) but the way the mc gets stuck is very believable and gives him a real goal to work towards. Only one game mechanic made me cringe and go, "no one would make or play a game like that." Which is high praise for this genre. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys the litrpg genre. I can't wait for the next one.
