Description

Number-one New York Times best-selling author Colleen Hoover returns with a new heart-wrenching love story.

When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn't even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn't want love, she doesn't have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her:

Never ask about the past.

Don't expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can't handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.

Promises get broken.

Rules get shattered.

Love gets ugly.

Somewhat Boring

I found the storyline to be a bit flat, with little character development. The individual who performed for Miles had a very monotone voice which took away from his character. Overall, I would not recommend this book, and specifically the audible version.

Heartbreaking

Loved the book. Female lead was a touch annoying. Male narrator was not my favorite. The way he kept saying "Ra-chel" was driving me nuts and not in a good way. His pronunciation was choppy and not pleasing to the ear.

Storyline was lovely. Sad. Real. Overall a satisfying book.

Loveeeeeeed it so much

Oh god, my heart. This story is wonderful, beautifully told, beautifully written. Relatable characters. I cried, I laughed, I breathed a sigh of relief. Addicting, I didn’t want to stop listening.

Entertaining, could have been better.

The think I liked the most about this story was how the chapters were mixed between present day and 6 years earlier where Mikes’ past unfolds. It definitely kept me listening because it starts out so well but you know it doesn’t end well because of how he is with Tate now.

Ultimately this wasn’t the best Colleen Hoover book. There was only one side character of interest - the old man that maintains the elevators in their apartment. Other than that the two of them don’t seem to have any friends. Miles has at least one friend and his personality kind of explains why that’s all that’s mentioned. But it’s like Tate is on an island. She works as a nurse and never once are any friends or coworkers mentioned. It makes the story scope very narrow and one-dimensional with only Miles’ past stringing us along to keep the interest alive. Too bad, story could have been great. Still, a good one to pick up if you’re looking for something a little spicy 🌶 🔥😉

Too much sex, not enough substance!

I did not like this book. I have read every other CoHo book and would easily give them all a four or five star rating based on storyline and characters alone, but not this one. The sex scenes were overkill, and while I'm not a prude, it was redundant. I found myself having to fast-forward chunks of the book to get to the substance. The narration was decent, so it made it easier to finish it.

Great story!

I truly enjoyed this story. I liked the way it was written and it definitely kept me listening. I would have given it 5 stars if the male narrative was from another person. I was not fod of the man reading and strongly feel like it should have been read but a much deeper and rougher male voice. the character is strong, sexy and very masculine but the narrator was very soft spoken therefore taking away from the characters intensity.

Good story but...

I feel guilty saying this because this is my third consecutive Colleen Hoover book and her stories are just so good. However, I don’t think I can listen to them as an audio book....
The female narrator was excellent. I was chuckling along to her reading, it’s so full of expression! Paints a perfect picture of the female lead. The male narrator missed the Mark for me. I felt like I was being read poetry... the lines were done in that sing song way. Also, his voice and that sing song tone made me feel like Miles was completely creepy.

Think I’ll just order the physical copy and read instead.

🌟🌟 5 Stars 🌟🌟

I love this story. It was heartbreaking and healing. I love that we get to see them fall in love and see them both grow. The only thing I can say besides how much I love it is Miles from the past chapters comes across a little creepy. I don't know if that is the narration or the way he is written. He doesn't speak like a normal person, it's more like he's telling the story to us even though it's written in the first person POV and he says her name so many times. But that didn't change how much I like this book.

I love 1/2 the narration. Grace Grant is an awesome narrator, her male and female voices are great. Deacon Lee on the other hand isn't my first choice for Miles. He is a good narrator but he just didn't fit the Miles in my head. Also he sounds too much like John Malkovich for me.

SOOOOOO good!

Would you consider the audio edition of Ugly Love to be better than the print version?

Yes, always, if the narrators are good, they bring the book to life. These two did a great job.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Ugly Love?

The part where we finally found out what happened to Rachel. Completely devastating.

What about Grace Grant and Deacon Lee ’s performance did you like?

They really projected the emotions of the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did. I listened all day.

Any additional comments?

This is my first book by this author. I've been hearing a lot about her books, and when my book club friend offered to send me a copy, I said yes. I'm so thankful for the opportunity to try a new to me author. I absolutely loved this book, and look forward to reading many more.

Good story, difficult listening

The male narration was difficult to listen too. He seemed choppy and not comfortable with the part.

Better Male Narrator

Grace Grant was excellent as always. I just wish the would've picked a better narrator for Miles. I almost didn't think I would finish because his voice is so whiney. I did however skip a lot of the Miles parts.

Female narrator was fantastic

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

The male narrator was way to effeminate and made the character come off as gay

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes

Everybody hurts... sometimes

Although it's a good emotional and rough story, well written, after 50% of the book, I'm afraid I didn't like the most mercurial important character in the book. Yes I had hope it would be ok, but...

I don't understand him, so selfish!

You know, you're not alone Miles! Some people actually lost more than one love by accident or else and they moved on without leaving a wreck behind. Can't think of one good thing about Miles. He was smarter when he was 18... A man this big and so self center. I understand he's hurt but exaggerating words and silent, silence but deafening... duh

You're smart enough to know, your friends worry about you but you can't care less about them.

Ian was so good to you, even Corbin was taking care of you and most of all, Tate! How could you torture her so and not Rachel, who left you?
Are you aware they had feelings too and maybe they were hurt like you, before they met you?

Everybody hurts... sometimes.

Loved Cap! What an amazing and wise old man! And I got to say that Tate saved a man who doesn't deserved to be saved at that moment.

All through the book, too much information about the "six years earlier" and I wasn't impressed. I wanted to know more about the present and the development and interaction between Miles and Tate.

I wanted more about the realization of Miles almost throwing his whole life away! His story was tragic, ok! But there's no hope, so why live and let others feel pain?

If you loved Maybe Someday, this isn't enough and doesn't come close.

I felt the ugliness not in the story, but in the character...

I loved how it ended.

I felt like I really liked the beginning and the ending, in fact I loved the ending, but the middle dragged for me. I found the characters likable, but Miles was kind of whiny for a lot of the book. The ending made it worth it, but I felt like it could have been cut down some.
I felt the narration was very good, I did enjoy Grace Grant's performance more than Deacon Lee's. It wasn't his talent level as much as I found his voice a bit irritating. However I don't know if it's more the character, the narrator or the combination to be completely honest. I would listen to either narrator again.
If you are a fan of contemporary romance novels, I think this is worth a try!
Happy listening!

Ugh!

Maybe I'm just over the whole broken soul dragging his heart around for hours of listening torture to be miraculously healed by some chick hopping into bed with him. It's just so dumb. The story line is weak and is mainly filled with fluff of the same agonizing dilema over and over and over and over and all they do is have sex that just gets monotonous. The dialogue is mainly in their heads so very little interaction...aside from the sex....which wasn't that good.
As for the narrators...Grace Grant was really choppy at times in her reading and Deacon Lee isnt always the strongest narrator but in his defense his character was pretty weak so what are you going to do?
Ugh!!!

Ugly Love

I've loved Colleen Hoover's other books so much but this one just didn't quite hit the mark for me. Maybe it was because I got the audio version of this book.

The story unfolds slowly as Miles tells his story of why he can't love all the while not telling Tate. I think if they talked more about the reasons he was so shut off from love it would have been a better read.

I felt Tate just didn't love herself enough to walk away sooner. Loved big brother Corbin as overprotective as he was.

Great Story - Worth the Credit

What made the experience of listening to Ugly Love the most enjoyable?

The best experience was the dual narration. I like how Myles Archers story gradually unfolded leading up to his present situation with Tate.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

I feel that both narrators did a great job narrating. I just wasn't particularly satisfied with the presentation of the male narrator (no offense), something off about the voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book left me on edge at points, which is a good thing. Emotionally, toward the end when we finally find out the issue with Myles is where my heart broke, but it turns out for the best.

Any additional comments?

Overall, worth the listen. Great story.
