À propos de cet audio

A #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER.

In this twisty thriller from New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover, a frustrated author looks for her muse in a remote hideaway, but what she finds defies all expectations…and reality.

Her words used to set the page on fire. But a viral backlash over her latest film adaptation forced Petra Rose to take a hiatus, resulting in missed deadlines and an overdue mortgage. Branded a fraud and fame-hungry opportunist, she learned the hard way what happens when the internet turns on you. And she’s been uninspired to write ever since.

Now, with her next suspense novel outlined and savings nearly gone, she retreats to a secluded lakeside cabin, hoping to find inspiration. It’s Petra’s last-ditch attempt to save her career—and herself.

Then he shows up.

Detective Nathaniel Saint arrives with disturbing news, his presence igniting a creativity in her she thought long since burned out. Petra’s words return in a rush, and her fictional cop character begins to mirror the very real cop who’s becoming her muse.

Their “research” sessions blur the lines between fantasy and reality. Each glance, every touch pulls Petra deeper into a world she thought she’d never lose herself in again. She’s never felt more alive. But inspiration this powerful comes at a cost.

When Saint starts taking his role in her career a little too seriously, Petra’s forced to confront the chaos she created. But doing so could cost her more than the reputation she’s been trying to salvage. The reputation the world wrote for her—the reputation only she can reclaim.

I personally feel like this was one of her worst. I'm a big fan! Just not of this book.

Predictable

First this title should come with a trigger warning. Affairs are not an easy subject for many. Second, amusing that the female lead is a writer talking about authenticity in writing but this story lacks just that. The female lead makes so many straight up cringy decisions that it ends up making the entire book an extended eye roll.

Affair Eye Roll

This book was only okay. I have read every single Colleen Hoover book and this one is pretty meh. I actually hated the first half but it slowly got me more invested and I am glad I pushed through and finished it.

Not my favourite Colleen Hoover

I absolutely loved Verity—it’s genuinely one of the best books I’ve ever read. I’m a huge fan of psychological thrillers, so imagine my surprise when I learned that Colleen Hoover is primarily a romance writer rather than a thriller author (Verity was the first of her books I’d read).

When I spotted this title in the bookstore and saw it was brand new, I was intrigued—especially after reading a review calling it her “darkest novel yet.” Given how dark Verity was (honestly, one of the darkest novels I’ve ever read), I figured this would be right up my alley.

Unfortunately, it was a major letdown. Not only was the main character completely insufferable, but the storyline itself was painfully slow to get going. And once it finally did pick up, I found myself rolling my eyes—and even venting out loud to my dog about how much I disliked both the book and its characters. The story doesn’t gain any real momentum until well past the halfway point, and while there are a few twists, I guessed the main one early on, which made the ending especially disappointing.

This is not a thriller. And whoever claimed this is Hoover’s darkest novel clearly hasn’t read Verity. Do yourself a favour and skip this one—don’t waste your monthly credit on it.

Very predictable. Just felt more trashy than an entertaining story. The main character was annoying.

Boring and cheesy
