À propos de cet audio
Newly remastered with additional sound design to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Lord of the Flies.
A plane crashes on a desert island and the only survivors, a group of schoolboys, assemble on the beach and wait to be rescued. By day they inhabit a land of bright fantastic birds and dark blue seas, but at night their dreams are haunted by the image of a terrifying beast. As the boys' delicate sense of order fades, so their childish dreams are transformed into something more primitive, and their behaviour starts to take on a murderous, savage significance.
First Published in 1954, Lord of the Flies is one of the most celebrated and widely read of modern classics
'The first book with hands - strong ones that reached out of the pages and seized me by the throat. It said to me, 'This is not just entertainment; it's life or death.' ... I've been thinking about it ever since, for fifty years and more.' Stephen King
'One of my favorite books - I read it every couple of years.' Suzanne Collins, author of The Hunger Games
'A post-apocalyptic, dystopian survivor-fantasy ... [A novel] for all time ... A cult classic.' Guardian

When Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm published their Children's and Household Tales in 1812, followed by a second volume in 1815, they had no idea that such stories as "Rapunzel", "Hansel and Gretel", and "Cinderella" would become the most celebrated in the world. Yet few people today are familiar with the majority of tales from the two early volumes, since in the next four decades the Grimms would publish six other editions, each extensively revised in content and style.

Inextricably linked with the fatwa called against its author in the wake of the novel’s publication, The Satanic Verses is, beyond that, a rich showcase for Salman Rushdie’s comic sensibilities, cultural observations, and unparalleled mastery of language. The book begins with two Indians plummeting from the sky after the explosion of their airliner, and proceeds through a series of metamorphoses, dreams and revelations.

This book is quite rightly discussed in classrooms and English Lit classes for it's brilliance. The metaphorical symbolism is astounding - the conch, the fire, the beast, etc.. The imagery is compelling - the Fire, the Dance, etc..
Martin Jarvis does a good job bringing the story to listeners - using generally well-chosen cadences and accents for the characters - but the voice choices for Piggy and Jack get grating after awhile.
The performance is nothing special.
This recording of a classic tale is worth 9.5 stars out of 10.
