Histoire
It’s been almost two years since Effie’s beloved parents got divorced, destroying the image of the happy, loving childhood she thought she had. Since then, she’s become estranged from her father and embarked on a feud with his hot (and much younger) girlfriend, Krista. And now, more earth-shattering news: They’ve sold Greenoaks, the rambling Victorian country house Effie has always called home.

Fixie Farr has always lived by her father’s motto: “Family first”. And since her dad passed away, leaving his charming housewares store in the hands of his wife and children, Fixie spends all her time picking up the slack from her siblings instead of striking out on her own. When a handsome stranger in a coffee shop asks her to watch his laptop for a moment, she not only agrees - she ends up saving it from certain disaster. To thank Fixie for her quick thinking, the computer’s owner, an investment manager, scribbles an IOU on a coffee sleeve and attaches his business card.

Everywhere Katie Brenner looks, someone else is living the life she longs for, particularly her boss, Demeter Farlowe. Demeter is brilliant and creative, lives with her perfect family in a posh townhouse, and wears the coolest clothes. Katie's life, meanwhile, is a daily struggle - from her dismal rental to her oddball flatmates to the tense office politics she's trying to negotiate. No wonder Katie takes refuge in not-quite-true Instagram posts, especially as she's desperate to make her dad proud.

Minnie Cooper knows two things with certainty: that her New Year's birthday is unlucky, and that it's all because of Quinn Hamilton, a man she's never met. Their mothers gave birth to them at the same hospital just after midnight on New Year's Day, but Quinn was given the cash prize for being the first baby born in London in 1990 - and the name Minnie was meant to have, as well. With luck like that, it's no wonder each of her birthdays has been more of a disaster than the one before.

One of my favorite books

Description
From the number one New York Times best-selling author of I Owe You One, an utterly delightful novel about a woman who ditches her dating app for a writer's retreat in Italy - only to find that real love comes with its own filters.
Call Ava romantic, but she thinks love should be found in the real world, not on apps that filter men by height, job, or astrological sign. She believes in feelings, not algorithms. So after a recent breakup and dating app debacle, she decides to put love on hold and escapes to a remote writers' retreat in coastal Italy. She's determined to finish writing the novel she's been fantasizing about, even though it means leaving her close-knit group of friends and her precious dog, Harold, behind.
At the retreat, she's not allowed to use her real name or reveal any personal information. When the neighboring martial arts retreat is canceled and a few of its attendees join their small writing community, Ava, now going by "Aria". meets "Dutch", a man who seems too good to be true. The two embark on a baggage-free, whirlwind love affair, cliff-jumping into gem-colored Mediterranean waters and exploring the splendor of the Italian coast. Things seem to be perfect for Aria and Dutch.
But then their real identities - Ava and Matt - must return to London. As their fantasy starts to fade, they discover just how different their personal worlds are. From food choices to annoying habits to sauna etiquette...are they compatible in anything? And then there's the prickly situation with Matt's ex-girlfriend, who isn't too eager to let him go. As one mishap follows another, it seems while they love each other, they just can't love each other's lives. Can they reconcile their differences to find one life together?

Hot Garbage
This book should have been 3/4 of them at the retreat and 1/4 after. This main character is so unlikeable. Her and her friends are absolute trash and I rooted the whole story for something bad to happen. I don’t know how this is on a best seller list. My roommate got halfway before giving up and if I wasn’t listening to it I would have only lasted 5 chapters trying to read this snooze fest. The only reason I was able to finish was my 30 minute drive to and from work where I figured hell gotta listen to something. Would not recommend. Should not be a best seller. Terrible characters. Terrible story. Had me at the concept and lost me in the execution

Coming from a huge fan, this one is a miss
I want to echo some of the sentiments from other reviewers. This book is boring. Nothing happens in it. It's so boring that several times, I found myself glancing at the time counter to see how much time there was left on the book so it could just be over already. This book is sort of like a recycling of two familiar characters in Kinsella's world, Becky Bloomwood and Luke Brandon from the Shopaholic series. Ava is the optimistic, scatterbrained, free spirit, and Matt is the workaholic, serious one in the relationship The two main characters are like parallel universe versions of Becky and Luke. Ava and Matt have the same quirkiness but none of the charm. Their relationship was flat and one-dimensional. The further I got into the book, the more annoyed I became. I kept hoping for a more meaningful connection between the two characters, but instead, I got a glimpse into a long, drawn out, shallow relationship where I had to suspend all of my disbelief that I should be rooting for two characters that are so incompatible or likeable for that matter. I'm a big fan of Sophie Kinsella. I've read most of her books more than once, but this one sadly was a waste of a credit.

SUCH A DISAPPOINTMENT FROM MY FAVORITE AUTHOR
First off, I want to say I love Sophie Kinsella and have read all her books, probably three to four times! Unfortunately, this book will not be one of them. Like other reviewers have said, it’s a bit boring and the main characters are quite dull and annoying. Truthfully, I couldn’t bring myself to finish it! One thing I loved about Sophie’s characters is that although some are quirky, they also have sweet, charming and redeeming qualities. Ava has none of them. The love story part was just as boring and annoying as the characters. I feel terrible saying all of this, as I really do love Sophie and am always so excited when I see a new book of hers come out. I’m sure the next book will be a big hit and this one will just be a memory.

One Dimensional Characters
I have been a fan of Kinsella’s fun, lighthearted fiction. The shopaholic series was great fun with quirky, likable characters. Sorry to say, Ava and Matt were a bit boring and unlikeable. Ava is annoying and Matt is flat. The basis of the relationship was good sex. Not much more...I’d say skip this one...

So... so
The premise is a good one, but honestly this book is just way too long for what it offers. I found myself more than halfway just wondering where it was going and when it was going to get there. Like being stuck on a long, but not picturesque, bus ride. The characters are not even interesting and my biggest annoyance is that they never TALK. For instance, how does so much time pass without the main character asking WHY this guy even went to a writers retreat in the first place when he seems to have no interest in writing, whatsoever. And really, the same goes with the main character. It seemed like that premise, from the start, makes a huge plot hole in the story. It could have been anything else. Even just a vacation. But whatever, I guess. I just didn’t enjoy it at all and it doesn’t get better as the story goes on. The desire for them to force this relationship through just doesn’t make sense.

Absurd
I tried hard to get through this but I can’t. There were a few funny parts in the first couple of hours.
I found the main characters to be superficial and obnoxious. Not relatable at all. Flat. Not worth a credit.

Wonderful
I've been eagerly awaiting this new book and I was not disappointed. It was fun, romantic, humorous, and full of Kinsella characters you love to listen alongside as usual. The narration was excellent and enhanced the story.

Oh, Harold!
I’m a big Sophie Kinsella fan, but as I get older, I start cringing when the young heroines make boneheaded moves. Lots of funny situations to get me through! But Harold was the best character in the book! Go Harold!

If you're looking for a silly rom-com to listen to, this is laugh out loud hilarious. This book put me in a better mood every time I listen to a chapter.
Can't wait for the next one Sophie!
