Description

When she won the presidency, the world was in crisis. Would Blain be able to maintain her trust at this crucial hour?

The Chinese were driven out of the Caribbean, but Blain knew it was at a terrible cost. There were those in the administration that had lost their nerve. The president was determined to slay the Jade Dragon, but would he be able to get her what she needs to win?

A divided cabinet threatens everything. Is the political pressure too much?

The Japanese have stepped up. They’ve deployed forces to the mainland, but is it too little too late to make a difference? A massive Chinese army seeks to divide Russia in two and break the supply lines. One Italian artilleryman fights to stay alive. If he can just get into position, he’ll call in the strike, and the Chinese won’t know what hit them. It could be the break NATO needs, but the odds are against him.

The most dangerous front is on the airwaves.

With socially engineered deepfakes and propaganda sowing the seeds of distrust across the globe, the tech giants are at the center of it all. Can they be stopped? Will freedom of speech be lost, and with it, all hope?

Best one yet!

The authors have hit full stride with volume 4 of the Monroe Doctrine. This fourth part of the story advances the plot quite a ways down the field, it balances perfectly between West Wing politics and battlefield mayhem, and the near-future tech that is employed is well executed.

This quick summary aside, there were two very cool elements of the story. First, was that the US government used nuclear weapons in a first-strike capacity. I won't get into the specifics, but the advancement of this part of the story was well executed and bone-chilling. In my head, I could see the President, her advisors and the generals huddled somewhere in Washington rationalizing their use of this nightmare weapon. This whole part of the book was exceptional and in my opinion seems entirely possible.

The second remarkable part (not remarkable - rather visceral and brutal), was the scene when the US Marines took the beach in Venezuela. The authors patiently set this scenario up in volume three and it paid off big time in this listen. US forces (but also the UK and French) take horrific losses and while they end up winning the battle, the scene drove home that the United States is in genuine peril in this story. No one likes a story that's predictable and this battle, in combination with further developments in the Chinese AI storyline, put doubt into my mind that the American side of the conflict can win.

Without a doubt, this was the most compelling, most balanced, and most thrilling of the four volumes. I give it a five-star rating.

Finally, once again, the narrator did a superb job. His tone is perfect for this genre and I give full credit to his accents. Not easy. This time around, he adds a solid Aussie accent to his repertoire. Well done!!
