À propos de cet audio

After a routine delivery, midwife Sarah Brandt visits her patient in a rooming house and finds that another boarder, a young girl, has been killed. At the request of sergeant Frank Malloy, she searches the girl's room and discovers that the victim is from one of the most prominent families in New York - and the sister of an old friend. The powerful family, fearful of scandal, refuses to permit an investigation. But with Malloy's help, Sarah begins a dangerous quest to bring the killer to justice before death claims another victim.

Story wasn’t bad - typical in some respects. Reader was monotone in many places. Lack lustre performance making it difficult to stay focused on the story.

Performance was monotonous

I like to listen to audiobooks while cleaning and working so I didn’t need them all to be the best book I’ve ever read. The story itself was pretty predictable and the writing style a bit repetitive and flawed at times but I did enjoy the book for the purpose it served.

The story takes you through the main characters backgrounds as they uncover the culprit and doesn’t have any glaring plot holes which I appreciated.

The worst part about this book for me however was the narrator. The descriptive sections weren’t awful, but the dialogue was atrocious. The narrator didn’t separate any of the characters by voice, tone, accent, pitch, anything. Which not only made it hard to figure out who was saying what sometimes but really broke any kind of immersion I might’ve had in the first place. I think another reviewer referred to it as “AI Narration” which is pretty spot on.

Basically, it’s not a stand out novel in any way and I doubt I would read it again but since it was free in the first place it was enjoyable for me!

Good background story

This was recommended as something I would like, comparable to Jessica Ellicott mysteries and it was not even close. The AI narrating was bad enough, but the story line was in very bad taste and is an insult to compare to Ellicott’s novels.

Very Disappointed
