I loved all of it. I bought this book maybe 20-25 years ago and gave it to my cousin who was going to film school. I had not read it myself then so I was happy to pickup this audio version. This is the way to go now, audio is great especially read by the author, loved all the extra tidbits of info that were added throughout. An energizing creative tale that once again proves all you really have to do is start and believe in yourself.

I could not stop listening to this book. I rarely review books but I rarely enjoy them so much. The story is a fun trip , an adventure you take with the writer. I didn’t check who narrated it when I purchased but took notice as it was one of the most pleasant and natural voices I’ve heard. I heard a laugh in the narrators voice at a funny anecdote that made me pause… this guy sounds like he was there. I paused and discovered it was the man himself! Robert Rodriguez is a true talent in more categories than I even thought! Loved it!

If you’re an aspiring filmmaker , your story probably won’t go down like this, but there’s a lot to learn here anyway!

Incredible guidebook for how to start your career as a filmmaker. Just start doing it. Get scrappy. Do it guerrilla-style. Get your friends and peers together, and start shooting. Even more applicable in the age of phones and devices with high-tech cameras on them. Never been easier to start making short films, clips, content, hell even a feature! Rodriguez walks us through his early days as a filmmaker making El Mariachi on a shoestring budget - $7000 to be exact. It’s possible. It’s doable. Ya just gotta do it. Lots of great nuggets of advice and wisdom in here. But also just a highly entertaining story of how he got his little movie made, got it into festivals, got it distributed, and how his career blew up from there. Recommended for aspiring filmmakers, industry-types, film buffs, cinephiles, and fans of Rodriguez’s work!
