 With dashing Scotland Yard Inspector Alec Fletcher at her side, Daisy is enjoying a delightful performance of Verdi's Requiem, featuring her neighbor Muriel Westlea's celebrated sister, Bettina. But when all that emerges from the doomed diva's vocal chords is a dying gasp, Daisy soon discovers that the notoriously difficult opera star had her share of adversaries; among them a smugly philandering tenor, a burly Russian bass, and even her own vocal coach husband, with whom she shared a hardly harmonious marriage.

Did one of them fatally poison the acclaimed mezzo? Or is someone else determined to see that Daisy's investigation ends on as bitter a note as Bettina's fateful last performance?

A little repetitive but good characters and nicely performed. Great series - has me hooked

Very enjoyable story.

Another solid vocal performance by Bernadette Dunn (no relation to the author?). Her British accents are top notch and help to keep the characters straight. Her pacing is also effective to the story-telling, dramatic pauses and so on.
This is the first Daisy Dalrymple set in London rather than another ancestral estate. I enjoyed the realistic back-stabbing behaviour of the operatic world, the references to music and the political situation (post Russian revolution) at the time. I’m not so sure about some of historical details incorporated into the story. Wondering about the feasibility (a Chinese restaurant in 1923?) distracted me from the narrative. However, the plot itself developed deliciously, with plenty of red herrings right until the end.

I am currently rereading this series because I enjoy it so much. The character is spunky without being foolish and the stories are well-written and executed. There is a touch of romance without explicit detail. The narrator is very good which enhances the overall enjoyment. Recommend.

Fun mystery series

The main character of Daisy Dalrymple wasn’t as Predominant as it has been in other books in this series. There are a lot of characters so it’s sometimes a bit hard to keeping up with all of them. I personally enjoy the clean language that’s used in the telling of the story. Period pieces are safer that way.

I have read a lot of mysteries from the period and am so excited to find a new author (to me) to follow. I thought Dunn did an excellent job of capturing the flavour of the twenties. Daisy is so engaging, I found myself valuing the characters as she valued them, judging them through her mind. I was engaged from beginning to end and immediately sought out book 1.

I hope going forward some of the killers are not viewed in a sympathetic light.

though in book two he wasn't I was hoping for a cold-hearted killing. all in all, I did enjoy this one though.
