À propos de cet audio

An engrossing, “completely fascinating” (Cosmopolitan) memoir revealing the author’s struggle to come to terms with her own sociopathy and shed light on the often maligned and misunderstood mental disorder.

Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other people did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

In college, Patric finally confirmed what she’d long suspected. She was a sociopath. But even though it was the very first personality disorder identified—well over 200 years ago—sociopathy had been neglected by mental health professionals for decades. She was told there was no treatment, no hope for a normal life. But when Patric reconnects with an old flame, she gets a glimpse of a future beyond her diagnosis. If she’s capable of love, it must mean that she isn’t a like the madmen and evil villains in pop culture. With the help of her sweetheart (and some curious characters she meets along the way) she embarks on a mission to prove that the millions of Americans who share her diagnosis aren’t all monsters either.

This is the inspiring story of Patric’s journey to unlock the true nature of sociopathy and build a life of love and hope against all odds.

I’m blown away by this memoir!!!! I can’t even find the words to express how much this book means to me and how seen i feel.

PS: you should absolutely steal that dog.

I'm rather speechless. I couldn't get enough of this insightful book. I truly feel I have looked behind a forbidden curtain inside the mind of the author. The journey is filled with thrill, intrigue, and strangely enough, emotion! I think I'll read it again

Truly riveting!!! I couldn't put it down!

I thought the concept of this book was quite interesting but after halfway through, I was just ready to finish it. It felt a little redundant after a while but I can appreciate how the author was detailing the progression of her findings.

Interesting Concept but Lost Steam

I really enjoyed it. I thought she did a great job narrating it and despite what I’ve seen in other comments I enjoyed her voice.

It was interesting. Thought provoking.

The book was fascinating - I just wish her voice didn’t sound the way it does. I was cringing at the way she read it. I probably would’ve enjoyed the physical book better than the audiobook, because it truly was an interesting and fairly well-written memoir, if you could get past the weird tone of voice. Whether her story is fully true is up for debate, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

Interesting Story, Awful Speaking Voice

Patric strikes a lovely balance between her personal story and her teaching about sociopathy. I love memoirs and enjoy going deep into the mysteries of the mind. Sociopath hit the mark on both fronts. I appreciate Patric’s candour, humour, and honesty.

Captivating memoir

This was one of my favourite audiobooks of 2024. The author is a wonderful story teller and she did an excellent job with the audio of her memoire. An honest and frank account about living with sociopathy. I appreciate how much I learned about the condition but overall just enjoyed the story of Patric’s life. I laughed, I gasped in disbelief and horror but found myself cheering her on until the finish. I didn’t want it to end.

I liked the story itself and how determination can get through life. At the same time making mistakes along
the way and realizing it.

Great narration by the author and main character.
