Description

From New York Times best-selling author R. A. Salvatore comes a new trilogy and adventure of Drizzt and fantasy’s beloved characters from Dungeons & Dragons’ Forgotten Realms.

After the settling dust of the demon uprising and two years of peace, rumblings from the Menzoberranzan drow have Jarlaxle nervous. Worried his allies may be pulled into a Civil War between the great Houses, he is eager to ensure Zaknafein is armed with weapons befitting his skill, including one in particular: Khazid’hea. A powerful artifact, the sword known as “Cutter” has started wars, corrupted its users, and spilled the blood of many, many people. Nonetheless - or maybe because of that - the rogue Jarlaxle and a small group of friends will go on an expedition looking for the weapon’s last wielder, Doum’wielle, in the freezing north, for she may be the key to unlocking the sword’s potential...and perhaps the key to preventing the bloodshed looming over the Underdark.

And as they explore the top of the world, Drizzt is on a journey of his own - both spiritual and physical. He wants to introduce his daughter Brie to Grandmaster Kane and the practices that have been so central to his beliefs. But, having only recently come back from true transcendence, the drow ranger is no longer sure what his beliefs mean anymore. He is on a path to determining the future, not just for his family, but perhaps the entire northlands of the Realms themselves.

Two different roads. On one, Jarlaxle and Zaknefein are on a quest to find pieces that could offer salvation to Menzoberranzan. On the other, Drizzt seeks answers that could offer salvation to not just his soul, but all souls.

And no matter the outcome of either journey, the Realms will never be the same again.

Kind of meh

Felt like more of a forced story about a place I didn't care about to rescue someone I never liked, meanwhile let's spend half the book talking about a sport.

Things are building

Well dictated. Seems like another book setting up future stories while tying up loose ends. Overall I enjoyed it

Why is this sooooo boring?…

R.A Salvatore is always hit and miss.
Great at creating characters. But creating a storyline is usually his bane. He doesn’t know how to finish books, which is probably why the Drizzt series is over 35 books long. I love them. But this book…. So so droll. Half seem to be Drizzt’s musings, which in his other novels are only a page and a half journal entry ones, which I skip.
Drizzt is now torn between philosophies, but stands nowhere, making him soooooo boring.
Half way through this book, and nothing has happened. Might be the first Drizzt novel I won’t be able to finish.

A story of beginnings...

This story is for the fans; this is a story of new ways and won't have any bearing on those who don't know the Drow. Those who do know will find this enthralling; beware there are many new terms and new customs in this tale, this is for explorers.

Great story, narrator drives me b a n a n a s!

I love the Saga of Drizzt.
Jarlaxle and Zaknafien always boost any story about the Companions of the hall.
Bade is pronounced "Bay-d"
Bade is not pronounced "Bad".
Bade is the past tense of Bidden.
Bad is the opposite if good.

The narration pronouncing Bade as Bad is driving me bananas.

B A N A N A S!

Delivers

I have been reading this saga for about 25 years, and each book makes the whole saga so much more enjoyable.
this newest installment delivers.

OK story, but heavy handed anti-racist theme

I love the Drizzt series. I don't mind that Drizzt features only broefly in this book, but I am only giving this book 3 stars because the story feels artificially focused on hammering the reader over the head with the anti-racist tropes stemming from WotC right now. I am interested to see where the story goes in the coming books, but I wish the telling was done with more finese and less blunt force trying to prove that fantasy isn't racist.

Amazing.

Grand adventure with your favorite characters. you'll see some complain about how little drizzt is it, but cmon. he has 17 books and its about time Jarlaxle and the others get their time to shine. tbh I've actually been hoping we would get a book like this. new gang composed of our same characters. it's genius !! oh yeah, Mr. Bevine is absolutely magnificent as always.

Goosebumps

The ending left me in them. The only bad thing is that I must now wait for the next book!

Home run

This book caught me and never let me go until the end. I now have to wait until the next book of the trilogy comes out and that couldn't come soon enough. I will continue funding Mr. Salvatore until the day he decides to hang up his legacy. Bravo sir, bravo.

AMAZING

I quite literally randomly found Homecoming back in 2019 and from there it was a free fall across all 30 plus books in this amazing series every single book did not disappoint ( however the random change in narrator very much did no one except Victor is allowed to read the books off don't do that again...ever). some books in the series hit harder than others and this one is one of them! The emotions and thrills of this book are off the charts! I have officially caught up to the story and I CAN NOT WAIT for the next book.
FOR YOU ZAKNAFEIN!

Literary magnificence

Loved it. Salvatores drizzts books are always timely and current politically but in the subtlest and most thoughtful of ways. seeing this grand opera of drow nature vs nurture blossom is just awesome.

What happened to Mr Bevine and his reading skills?

I'm struggling to get through chapter 2. Narrator is stuck in super sad mode as and his p sounds are popping like crazy. I hope he hasn't turned over a new leaf. zzzzz

Perfection as usual!

Another fantastic book from the master! Victor seemed to lack his usual enthusiasm with this narration, but it was still good. I do hope he's well, though.

Preachy

I get it. These drow are good. You ran that part home. I've listened to all the other drizzt books and this one felt like a slog more times than I would have preferred. And I enjoy the concept that there are new goodly drow. Not all drow have to be under lolths rule. But I felt my self cringing during alot of the interaction with the new drow.

Also Drizzt is super boring now. Jarlacksle may as well be a walking plot device. Or maybe just one of his many items is in fact plot armor? Jokes aside I still do love jarlacksle. But sadly Zach is becoming more one dimensional to me. (I know he's getting over his racism. Which he really shouldn't even have. He hates drow. He hoped drizzt to go to the surface and escape drow. Why is he upset drizzt married a human?) he had more personality and depth to me in Homecoming, now he's just a bad ass.

And I also really appreciate having Victor narrate but his heart didn't seem in this one so much.
