Description

One of Time’s 10 most important nonfiction books of the 20th century.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne.

In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

The Autobiography of Malcolm X stands as the definitive statement of a movement and a man whose work was never completed but whose message is timeless. It is essential for anyone who wants to understand the African American experience and America as a whole.

how could they leave off the epilogue?

I adore this book and I love what Cowboys Curtis did with it.

I think that audible really messed up by leaving off the epilogue. its a massive part of the story. so disappointing.

One of the greatest and most inspirational stories

Incredible performance by Fishburne bringing this book to life. Malcolm X's story is so inspiring intellectually and spiritually. Beginning to end it was captivating. I will revisit this many times. Thank you Audible for making this happen in an important time. Alhamdulillah

A fascinating and inspiring leader

This fascinating book combined with the mastery of Laurence Fishburnes narration brings this book to a whole different level. Malcolm X is an amazing man who has touched and inspired an entire generation with his open-mindedness and willingness to fight for what he believed, regardless of the opposition. From his early street life and hustling to his Hajj pilgrimage and revolutionary speeches, this book has it all. Alhamduallah

Amazing!

This autobiography is one of the most important works I've ever read and had the most influence on my life. This audible recording was absolutely perfect because it really brought the story to life in a way that gave me goosebumps. Fishburne's reading was strong and powerful and I enjoyed experiencing the biography all over again. This has been one of my favs from Audible

One Word: WOW

From the engaging writing to the incredible performance by Laurence Fishburne, I was incredibly sad to finish this book. THAT is how good it was. Everyday I would see how long was left and would wish there was a bit more. To hear the story of how Malcolm Little became Malcolm X and then Al-Hajj Malik was truly awe inspiring. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Make sure you finish it!!

What a roller coaster of a life and therefor book! Watching his evolution is pretty cool, don't give up on him when he's deep in a wild creation myth, follow it right to the end. Great work by X, Haley and Fishburne (thanks for lending the our voice!).

A true champion then and now

Black peoples fight in this world is continuous and few care to seek truth or understanding
Malcolm is my hero and inspiration to be greater each day and “do for self “

Relevant and inspirational

This isn't light reading but I'm so glad that I listened to it.

I consider myself to be fairly aware of politics and the humanities, and yet this book reminded me how ignorant and privileged I really am. I learned a lot about history and about the Muslim culture, while at the same time being inspired to want to learn more. (I swear I Googled information more than I listened to the book). It was easy to forget that all of this happened over 50 years ago since much of it is relevant today.

For me, the book was most interesting in the second half, but I also recognize why it was important to understand Malcolm's earlier experiences. Malcolm X had many faults. He had an often justifiable, but mammoth sized, chip on his shoulder, and his views of women were definately representative of the times. I'm sad that he didn't live longer. His demeanor appears sincere, his teaching was transformative, and he (and the book) were inspirational.

Great foresight valid till date 2022

all thoughts and views by late Malcolm X are still valid to date in 2022 and his foresights are so real.

it's Nearly perfect

one of my favorite books of all time.. only problem is that the preface is missing.... I think Laurence Fishburne did a great Job channelling Malcolm... only person that might have done better is Denzel in the 90s... only reason I'm not giving it 5stars is because it's missing a Preface... (Alex Haley's part about meeting Malcom X) and the Epilogue..(the Death of Malcolm X and the events leading up too)... Those parts are equally important to me and I remember them from the physical copy..

Sadly this was written in 1964...

We did not listen then and we are not really listening now. Too many foxes and not enough wolves in powerful positions. You will have to listen/read the book to understand my comment. Malcolm X is insightful, articulate and self aware; Alex Haley is a skillful writer; and Laurence Fishburne’s narration is excellent.

It’s the Narrating

I’m not even finished with the book yet. But Laurence Fishburnes’ way of telling this story is amazing. 11/10 I’m sure when I’m finished

I am a better man

I am a better man for having listened to this book. I never knew that Malcolm X had left a autobiography however, I remember that time period. I was young then, I dealt with a lot of racism and one of the things that I remembered was white associates would try to force me to tell them was I for Malcolm X or was I for Martin Luther King. They would tell me Malcolm X is a Bad ni@#er and Martin Luther king was a good one. **( Note how they used the N word and did not think it was offensive). I never bought into any of that and never gave my opinion as you would loose either way. I just wanted to see both of them force this country into new Direction. Today's young men and women who don't remember the struggle of the 1960s they don't remember very much except in history books. But to see white America finally catch on that the systematic racism is deeply ingrained (BLM George Floyd). The Autobiography of Malcolm X shows how far we have come and where we are today. Really loved Chapter 15

Worth the wait

I’ve been looking forward to this production since it was announced and Laurence Fishburne really delivered. Far and away the best audiobook I’ve purchased this year. The book is great in its own right so I don’t think I can add any praise that hasn’t already been given to the text. I’m already about half way through this one and I’ll probably repeat it a couple more times in the coming weeks. Fishburne is THAT good.
