Detective Lauren Pengelly has only been part of the Penzance police force for less than two years, but that’s enough time to know that the sleepy Cornish town doesn’t see many murders. So, when the bones of a woman with a hole in her skull are discovered behind a derelict cottage, she immediately assumes the worst. Rallying her team, Lauren is flooded with a strange sense of relief when the bones turn out to be almost twenty years old, not a recent victim. But it quickly turns to dread when she receives her second heart-stopping call of the day–a little girl, Isla, has been kidnapped.

When her husband goes missing, Marissa Creighton fears the worst. Tell me you trust me was the last thing Ethan said to her, and she’d shrugged it off. Now she can’t get those words out of her head. Marissa’s family has always been her rock. But when they come to help her with eighteen-month-old Logan, their overprotectiveness borders on oppression—occupational hazard of the family’s surveillance business, or is it? Seeking comfort in the playlist she and Ethan share, Marissa is shocked to find a new song there: “Trust Me.” She’s certain it’s a message.

To Karl Alberg a quiet coastal town is exactly what he needs to soothe a psyche that's been battered by big-city police work. But this gentle paradise has more than its share of secrets. Bees buzz among the roses, and the local librarian is attractive, intriguing, and unattached. Perhaps he has at last come in from the cold. But a murder in small town can conceal a lot of secrets—some of them bleak enough to make a man yearn for some nice straightforward urban crime.

Angus King is an amazing narrator. I actually do a search for his name in Audible instead of a book title! Just great!
I loved the new series!!
Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.
The narrator pitches the voices of some characters very low and makes them sound forced. Perhaps the idea is to make some characters sound gruff, but instead he just makes it difficult to hear what the characters are saying.
Together with the wooden, almost amateurish sounding dialogue I find I have to give up on listening to the book. I’d like to return it, but I seem to be unable to do so.
By contrast, I’ve listened to 11 books in the author’s other series called Hidden Norfolk, and I found them to be engaging, well written and well narrated books.
