À propos de cet audio

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • John Grisham returns to Florida, where The Whistler’s Lacy Stoltz takes on a cold case that reveals a judge’s darkest secrets.

“One of the best crime reads of the year . . . a world-class shocker, worth staying up all night to finish.”—The Wall Street Journal

In The Whistler, Lacy Stoltz investigated a corrupt judge who was taking millions in bribes from a crime syndicate. She put the criminals away, but only after being attacked and nearly killed. Three years later, and approaching forty, she is tired of her work for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct and ready for a change.

Then she meets a mysterious woman who is so frightened she uses a number of aliases. Jeri Crosby’s father was murdered twenty years earlier in a case that remains unsolved and that has grown stone cold. But Jeri has a suspect whom she has become obsessed with and has stalked for two decades. Along the way, she has discovered other victims.

The man Jeri holds responsible for all these deaths is brilliant, patient, and always one step ahead of law enforcement. He is the most cunning of all serial killers. He knows forensics, police procedure, and most important: he knows the law.

He is a judge, in Florida—under Lacy’s jurisdiction.

But the man keeps a record of all his victims and targets, people unlucky enough to have crossed his path and wronged him in some way. Lacy must work to take him down, while somehow keeping her name off his list.

I love John Grisham and while this is not his best, it did not disappoint.

Satisfying

Thought the storyline was good and enjoyed the book. However the narrator’s voice was dull and flat and never really changed inflection so that I couldn’t tell who was doing the talking. I’ve listened to quite a few books and was always able to tell the characters apart. Really having trouble with this one.

Terrible Narration

I love the story!
However I find that the narrator makes it at time confusing to follow the story.
Reason is tone changes from one chapter to the other. Tone and style is inconsistent throughout the story

Narrator

As much as I was captivated reading The Pelican Brief, the ending of this one was really disappointing. While the storyline and narration are good, the ending is subpar.

weak and artificial ending

The ongoing story of Lacy Stolts has been a joy to read. Hoping that her story continues

Excellent follow up to the Whistler

I didn’t like the narrator and I’m not sure I even enjoyed the story. Maybe because of Grisham comments at the start of the book that this needed to live up to his previous work with this character. To me it felt awkward. However I kept listening and finished it over a weekend so there is something captivating but I couldn’t say what.

Hoping the plot line would improve, I stuck with the story to the end; however, the surface was as far as The Judge’s List got in terms of developing either character, setting or plot. The narrator’s voice and tempo did little to lift a story off the page. I wish I spent the time listening to another book.

Interesting Concept - Not Enough Substance

Found the characters of Lacy & Jerry, and relationship, kind of ‘meh’; I’m not sure why, but I found myself wanting to sit the both of them down, side by side, at a nice, long fold up table, with a cheery red-checked tablecloth. In front of each of them, I’d be setting down a big, fluffy, soufflé-height coconut cream pie - coconut: because it’s the worst of the bunch, in my opinion. Then I’d stand between them and, firmly but gently, mash both their faces into their respective pies…not wanting to hurt them, of course, but more to just say ‘shaduuuppp!’

Good, but…
