It seemed the point of this story was to facilitate the reader or listeners own imagination, and explore what it might be like to live close to, or be, small people. It unlocked the door to a grander idea, but it is the reader's choice whether to walk through and explore that idea further on their own. Given the length of the story, I believe it did what it set out to do, which was to provide a slice of life in this alt-reality.
