Description

A New York Times best seller

“Fraught with danger, filled with mystery, and meticulously researched, The Lost Girls of Paris is a fascinating tale of the hidden women who helped to win the war.” (Lisa Wingate, New York Times best-selling author of Before We Were Yours)

From the author of the runaway best seller The Orphan’s Tale comes a remarkable story of friendship and courage centered around three women and a ring of female secret agents during World War II.

1946, Manhattan

One morning while passing through Grand Central Terminal on her way to work, Grace Healey finds an abandoned suitcase tucked beneath a bench. Unable to resist her own curiosity, Grace opens the suitcase, where she discovers a dozen photographs - each of a different woman. In a moment of impulse, Grace takes the photographs and quickly leaves the station.

Grace soon learns that the suitcase belonged to a woman named Eleanor Trigg, leader of a network of female secret agents who were deployed out of London during the war. Twelve of these women were sent to Occupied Europe as couriers and radio operators to aid the resistance, but they never returned home, their fates a mystery. Setting out to learn the truth behind the women in the photographs, Grace finds herself drawn to a young mother turned agent named Marie, whose daring mission overseas reveals a remarkable story of friendship, valor, and betrayal.

Vividly rendered and inspired by true events, New York Times best-selling author Pam Jenoff shines a light on the incredible heroics of the brave women of the war and weaves a mesmerizing tale of courage, sisterhood and the great strength of women to survive in the hardest of circumstances.

How Not to be a Spy

This is not an empowering female story show casing a lesser known side to WWII. Unfortunately this novel is totally unbelievable and full of ridiculous scenarios where the female protagonists seem to completely forget everything they have been taught. It’s so bad it almost feels like satire. How was this written by a woman?

The performance is great, and the story is enough for a very light read but isn’t at all worthy of any sort of acclaim.

Outstanding!

By far one of my favourite audible books. I was just taken away and could not stop listening to this book. Pam Jenoff is a brilliant storyteller, capturing your heart from the beginning. I felt as if I was right there with the characters the entire time. It left me wanting to learn more. The performance was just as good. I wished the love interests had a happy ending after all, however it truly did make you remember a fragment of what these hero’s went through during and after the war.

Narrator unbelievable

The main plot of this book, although interesting is weak and not compelling. Could have used some serious editing. Eg “She walked into the door”...
One of the narrator’s voices was grating, inflections were inappropriate...made me wonder if she had read ahead to address dialogue with appropriate emotion.

disappointing

What a terrible narrative filled with irredeemable characters. Marie is not intelligent and gets involved in a love story after 2 days of knowing a man. Grace is a pushy entitled american and Eleanor lacks agency. I regret the hours I spent listening to this. I would not reccomend it to anyone.

Boring!!

Very slow story. Almost 15 min spent on a silly dilemma on what to do with photographs!
What a waste of a credit. Narration was poor and the attempts at accents were even worse.

slow story, horrible narration

i really wanted to like this, it sounded so promising but just couldnt get into it. The story has some hope, but it's so slow and drawn out its impossible to get into. plots weak. the narrators are brutal and made what could have been an okay but not great story unbearable. graces voice was grating and annoying. the attempt at accents from Marie's parts were all over the place and felt forced and over the top. overall wished I hadn't purchased and wasted my time.m, had to force myself to finish it and not quit 3 chapters in.

Great book of history, love and betrayal

Great book I found a little slow in the beginning, but once I got into the story I couldn’t put it down till the end.

Show don't tell!

A bit too expository for my taste but the story itself is good! I just hate being told how a character is feeling at every turn.
This won't be on my list of top historical fiction.
