THE STORY

As the Kingdom of Iron is secured and the Primarch Reborn's thoughts turn to future salients, the Arch-enemy strikes back against the Indomitus Crusade's forces. The shrine worlds of the Golden Chain are all but broken, and only Velua remains defiant. Canoness Irinya of the Order of Our Martyred Lady and Champion Gaheris of the Black Templars hold the line, fighting against the plague-ridden cultists reducing the planet to anarchy.

While the war rages on and the true enemy makes itself known, the fate of Velua and the wider crusade may rest upon the shoulders of another of the Imperial Regent's agents: the disgraced Rogue Trader Katla Helvintr. Derivative, non exciting sludge; but well voice acted. C grade 40k writer in my humble opinion. Sad reality of 40k is it seems there are only a handful of brilliant writers.

I gave it 4 stars because it’s Bolter fluff, and that’s why we’re here. But, and it’s a big annoying “but”, if you were to play a drinking game based on how many times you hear the word “wroth”, you’d be comatose by the end of chapter 2. Perhaps I am exaggerating slightly about the chapter 2 thing, but this author really needs a Thesaurus. Hearing that word so many times in one book was exasperating. Yes, they’re Black Templars, we get it. They are full of WROOOOTH!!!! I should have started counting🙄

DNF about half way through. This book introduces more than a dozen new characters and has nothing to do with Dawn of Fire. Every conversation is just buzzwords and warhammer sounding monologue. Like what an ai would generate if prompted with “sisters of battle talk about how much they like fighting for the emperor for three pages.” Skip this one, Helvinter is just background in the next one you don’t need her backstory. Banks once again does a wonderful job with what he is given.

The book was hard to follow. The author gets lost trying to write complex sentences with large, incorrectly used words in awkward run-on sentences.

each and everyone one of these keep getting me more and more hyped to see the conclusion of the indomitus crusade and how it will transition into the next big thing that they milk lol.
