Good and comprehensive review of the early 19th century European wars and their impact on the world. European history impacted and dominated events that set the stage for much of the 20th century conflicts. Exhaustive analysis with some side tracks but worthwhile.

Great book. takes a broader look at the effects of the war globally.
I have read several books on this period, but this is the only one I can think of that touches on the Brittish East India Company, Haitian revolution, China, Japan, and many more often overlooked aspects.

If you like your history as an academic dissertation then this is the book for you. I found it to be a chronological stating of events with a decent analysis of the domestic and global forces at work. However, it was devoid of any colour about the people involved and content to state an event happened without the story of how (e.g. just saying the “revolts of 1791, 1793” etc.). If you already know your history of the Napoleonic Wars, this book will give you a deeper understanding. If you are interested at all in the human story, then I’d recommend another title.
