À propos de cet audio
#1 New York Times-bestselling phenomenon Patrick Rothfuss returns to the wildly popular Kingkiller Chronicle universe with a stunning reimagining of "The Lightning Tree." Expanded to twice its previous length and lavishly illustrated by Nate Taylor, this touching stand-alone story is sure to please new audiences and veteran Rothfuss fans alike
No one taller than the stone. Come to blacktree, come alone. Tell no adult what’s been said, Lest the lightning strike you dead.
Follow the Kingkiller Chronicle’s most charming fae as he schemes his way through the small town of Newarre. While Bast cares nothing for the laws of man, he is beholden to older, deeper laws. And despite his cleverness and care, Bast finds himself forced to choose between betraying his master and helping a hated enemy.
Playful, sweet, and sly as Bast himself, The Narrow Road Between Desires explores a previously unseen part of Temerant, and shows a side of Bast we’ve only glimpsed before. Learn more about Bast as he goes against his better judgement and follows his heart’s desire.
For after all, what good is wisdom if it keeps you from finding your way to danger and delight?

Histoire4.5 out of 5 stars 7

You can't change your fate - so throw yourself into battle, because you'll either win or wake up drinking mead in the halls of your ancestors. That's what Finn's tribe believe. But when their settlement is massacred by a hostile tribe and Finn and several friends, companions, and rivals make their escape across a brutal, unfamiliar landscape, Finn will fight harder than he's ever fought in his life. He wants to live - even if he lives only long enough to tell Thyri Treelegs how he feels about her.

There’s no formal training for battlefield salvage. You just have to pick things up as you go along. Swords, armour, arrows–and the bodies, of course. Over the years, Saevus Corax has picked up a lot of things. Some of them have made him decent money, others have brought nothing but trouble. But it’s a living, and somebody has to deal with the dead. Something else that Saevus has buried is his past. Unfortunately, he didn’t quite succeed.

Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

The White Tree (book one): In Mallon the dark magic of the nether has been banned for centuries. Its users have been driven out or killed. Its secrets lost. The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything. I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

It has been 20 years since the end of the war. The dictatorial Augurs, once thought of almost as gods, were overthrown and wiped out during the conflict, their much-feared powers mysteriously failing them. Those who had ruled under them, men and women with a lesser ability known as the Gift, avoided the Augurs' fate only by submitting themselves to the rebellion's Four Tenets.

The House of Berethnet has ruled Inys for a thousand years. Still unwed, Queen Sabran the Ninth must conceive a daughter to protect her realm from destruction - but assassins are getting closer to her door. Ead Duryan is an outsider at court. Though she has risen to the position of lady-in-waiting, she is loyal to a hidden society of mages. Ead keeps a watchful eye on Sabran, secretly protecting her with forbidden magic.

It is also utterly charming, as by turns Bast reveals so many facets of himself (but many remain very much hidden).
The greatest beauty in the book, however, is in the Author’s note at the end. I won’t spoil it. Go get it.
The audiobook narration is very well done; Nick Podehl read the first two Kvothe books and is very much in step with the timing and nuance of Pat Rothfuss’s text.
Utterly enjoyable, bittersweet, and one I will return to again and again.
Charming and bittersweet

Told as a "day in the life" story, this book aims to show what Bast does when he's not around Kvothe. I always found Bast little more than an annoying Kvoth fanboy and his side motives were what really made him interesting. This story provides some insight into that, but in a more mundane way, where Bast spends most of the book interacting with several childen in town, trading favours for other favours and information. Nick Podehl's narration is top shelf as always, but the voices of the kids I found supremely grating and annoying. Thing is, that's how they should sound, so I can't fault him there.
It feels like this is designed to better flesh out how Bast thinks and the methodology he follows when plotting behind the scenes. It does that well and serves to better enlighten readers into his character. Personally, I didn't find it terribly interesting and just reinforced more of what I don't like about the character than what I find interesting.
Maybe when the third book comes out in approximately 4.86 heat deaths of the universe, this will become more essential reading.
Yet another side story
