À propos de cet audio

At the elite Catenan Academy, a young fugitive uncovers layered mysteries and world-changing secrets in this new fantasy series by internationally best-selling author of the Licanius Trilogy James Islington.

Audi. Vide. Tace.

The Catenan Republic—the Hierarchy—may rule the world now, but they do not know everything.

I tell them my name is Vis Telimus. I tell them I was orphaned after a tragic accident three years ago, and that good fortune alone has led to my acceptance into their most prestigious school. I tell them that once I graduate, I will gladly join the rest of civilized society in allowing my strength, my drive, and my focus—what they call Will—to be leeched away and added to the power of those above me, as millions already do. As all must eventually do.

I tell them that I belong, and they believe me.

But the truth is that I have been sent to the Academy to find answers. To solve a murder. To search for an ancient weapon. To uncover secrets that may tear the Republic apart.

And that I will never, ever cede my Will to the empire that executed my family.

To survive, though, I will still have to rise through the Academy’s ranks. I will have to smile, and make friends, and pretend to be one of them and win. Because if I cannot, then those who want to control me, who know my real name, will no longer have any use for me.

And if the Hierarchy finds out who I truly am, they will kill me.

This book is fantastic! As an adult with ADHD and someone who loves a good audiobook while on the go, this book makes me want to listen 24/7. The moment I wake up, I'm wondering what will happen next and how our main character is going to pull this all off and solve it. I can't begin to explain how amazing the writing is, and the person reading it is incredible! Easily one of the best books/audiobooks I've ever heard. A big thank you!

THIS BOOK IS FANTASTIC!! TRUST ME:D

I find myself utterly at a loss for words to capture the brilliance of this book. It's unlike any story I've encountered before. The world Islington has crafted is mesmerizingly vivid, and his characters pulse with life; it never fails to astound me—the sheer talent needed to create something so extraordinary. Well done !!

INCREDIBLE !!!!

Just completed my second journey with this book and WOW, what a great read/listen.

Enjoyed Licanius trilogy and, not to besmirch his great work in that, I can’t overstate how much more I have enjoyed the first instalment of the Hierarchy series. Cannot wait for the next one and cannot recommend this book enough.

Take a bow, James Islington, you’ve done yourself proud.

There were aspects of this story I enjoyed, and others that I found a bit predictable. It’s well written, I enjoyed the school setting (once we finally got there) and I appreciated the first person present storytelling. Some of the Roman-inspired elements were a touch on the nose though, and kept breaking me out of the story. Overall, the aesthetic of the world felt lacking, simply relying on Roman comparisons or singular descriptions to set scenes but lacking in fine details and any real immersion. I knew what was happening, but I wasn’t experiencing it.
If you enjoy Roman settings, unique fantasy technology and magic schools, check this one out.

A good read

The Hunger Games meets Hogwarts - only more nuanced, mysterious, and layered. The balance between character development, plot intrigue, and action was near perfection. The narrator was exceptional and managed to bring a large cast of characters to life, all of whom were identifiable and convincing. I will definitely be listening again!

Fabulous

I enjoyed so much of this book. The narrator was excellent. Unfortunately, while the book was so great for about 75 to 80%, the ending was very unsatisfactory.

Ending???

I really enjoyed this book and can't wait for the next one. Took a while to warm to the narrator's style in the first chapter. Ended up reading an ebook sample to get the groove!
