Description

A powerful curse forces the exiled Queen of Faerie to choose between ambition and humanity in this highly anticipated and jaw-dropping finale to the Folk of the Air trilogy from a number one New York Times best-selling author.

He will be the destruction of the crown and the ruination of the throne.

Power is much easier to acquire than it is to hold onto. Jude learned this lesson when she released her control over the wicked king, Cardan, in exchange for immeasurable power.

Now as the exiled mortal Queen of Faerie, Jude is powerless and left reeling from Cardan's betrayal. She bides her time, determined to reclaim everything he took from her. Opportunity arrives in the form of her twin sister, Taryn, whose mortal life is in peril.

Jude must risk venturing back into the treacherous Faerie Court, and confront her lingering feelings for Cardan, if she wishes to save her sister. But Elfhame is not as she left it. War is brewing. As Jude slips deep within enemy lines she becomes ensnared in the conflict's bloody politics.

And when a dormant yet powerful curse is unleashed, panic spreads throughout the land, forcing her to choose between her ambition and her humanity....

Great Book

Good story, I love the evolution of Jude and Cardan’s relationship. Loved the ending, cried a little somewhere in the middle.

Love these books! Just wish they had some spice to them!

These are great stories I fell so hard into this world & got so invested.

It had great characters development and made so many vibrant characters that I felt I could see them in my mind.

Family heartbreak, backstabbing, enchantments, tricks, curses, hope, love, forgiveness.
These books were a roller coaster of emotions.
Jude has been through so much in these books and proven herself worthy.

Her twin has a great ending to her story I use to hate her but ended up liking her same with their elder sister & little brother.

A Happy Medium of Genres

I needed a break from my usual murder and suspense mysteries - but was pleasantly surprised to find this fantasy mixed with both! The world of faerie was deeply immersable and hard to put down 🧚‍♂️ 👸

One of my fave series

I finish the series in a month it was so so good. The voice acting is really good I really like how she did all the characters. I will say it felt a little rushed in the end I felt there was a lot of ties that they could’ve left open and done with another book after following the same characters but overall it was really good, and I was really happy with it. Loved it

Holly Black does not disappoint

I read this book and purchased the audiobook so that I could easily re-listen to the story. It’s a favourite of mine, It has angst, a strong heroine, an interesting and intelligent heroine as well as a rich world.

The performance does not disappoint. I thought The male and female voices came through perfectly.

Great ending to a great series!

When I was told to read a book about fairies, I was very skeptical. But I gave it a chance, and I just couldn't stop listening. SOOO much greatness in this series and this was a suitable finale. Even one hour left in the book and I had no idea what would happen next. <3

Must Read

After being pronounced Queen of Faerie and then abruptly exiled by the Wicked King Cardan, Jude finds herself unmoored, the queen of nothing. She spends her time with Vivi and Oak, watches her fair share of reality television, and does the odd job or two, including trying to convince a cannibalistic faerie from hunting her own in the mortal world.

When her twin sister Taryn shows up asking of a favor, Jude jumps at the chance to return to the Faerie world, even if it means facing Cardan, who she loves despite his betrayal.

When a dark curse is unveiled, Jude must become the first mortal Queen of Faerie and uncover how to break the curse, or risk upsetting the balance of the whole Faerie world.

The final book readers, and what a glorious conclusion it was. This book was intense and absolutely satisfying. I said at the beginning of The Cruel Prince review that I was not a fan of books about faerie, well I have been converted. The next series that I will be reviewing is the October Daye series by Seanan McGuire. My love for this series is first and foremost due to Holly Black's stellar world building and character development. This is evident through out the series and the Queen of Nothing is the crown jewel. The reader is once again transported to Elfhame and the Machiavellian goings on of the High court. Jude is now the wife of Cardan. This was the twister from The Wicked King book. Yeah I kept that out of my review, SURPRISE LOL. The further surprise is that she gave up her control of Cardan and the power that came with it to rule at his side. Well that didn't go as planned when she was banished from Elfhame leaving Cardan firmly in control of the throne. To make things worse, her sister Taryn stabs Jude in the back and marries a disguising fey lord that Jude used to be attracted to. Got to say, I am not a fan of Taryn.

Jude is now back in the mortal world living with her gay fey sister, Vivienne and her lover. This is complicated since Vivienne is keeping faerie secret from her partner. The one going right for Jude is that her brother, Ash, is now safe from from harm now that he is living in the mortal world. Even though they are far away from Elfhame, the courtly intrigue begins to up Jude back into the thick of it. Jude makes the difficult decision to return to Elfhame when Taryn gets herself into trouble and is to stand trial. Taryn runs to Jude to get her out of the bind she finds herself in. Jude decides to go back and impersonate Taryn but that comes with its own set of problems, one being seeing Cardan again.

Death, that is what is awaiting Jude if she is discovered. Jude is also torn between the appealing need to see Cardan again against the overwhelming need for payback since she felt the sting of his betrayal. The Queen of Nothing is non-stop surprises and Holly Black finally closes out some of the open plots that where created throughout the series.

I was impressed by the arc of the relationship between Jude and Cardan. It didn't happen in the usual way which was very refreshing. I think it ruined me for other romantic pairings, damn. Their relationship has its ups and downs like many "real" world relationship. The fact that it wasn't a typical scripted relationship is why this series was so enjoyable to read.
