The world the Author built here is the standout from the story. kiju attack an empire made up of gunpowder / bio hacking armies. Come on thats brave! Fun take on social or metal defencies coming with strengths. I don't think the big ah ha moments were very well earned in this book. Mystery books are some of my least favorite fiction so take this with a grain of salt.

The characters were well developed and interesting. There felt like there was a deep and complex history to the land that still has not given up all it's secrets. It's like a Sherlock Holmes novel in a fantasy world. Great narration too. Really brought the characters to life.
