À propos de cet audio
A Warhammer 40,000 novel.
Follow the exploits of Oltyx, who, having finally been granted the throne of the Ithakas Dynasty, now faces far greater threats, from within and without. He soon learns that the lessons of kingship are not quite what he had hoped.
Listen to it because: experience the tumultuous reality of ruling a necron royal court and battling the the Imperium from the perspective of an necron lord whose mind is split into discrete partitions.
The story: after centuries of exile, the necron lord Oltyx has at last been granted the thing he has always craved: the throne of the Ithakas Dynasty. Kingship, however, is not quite what he had hoped for - Oltyx's reign currently exists aboard the dying battleship Akrops, as it lumbers away from the ruins of his crownworld. Behind it is a hostile armada of unfathomable size, launched by the barbaric alien war-cult known as the Imperium of Man. And within the Akrops' sepulchral hold, an even greater threat festers - the creeping horror of the flayer curse. Faced with such overwhelming odds, Oltyx leads a desperate voyage into a darkness so profound that salvation and doom look much the same. If he and his dynasty are to make it through that long night, Oltyx will have to become a very different sort of king.
Written by Nate Crowley. Narrated by Richard Reed.

In the darkness beyond the galaxy, there are monsters. Some swim closer to the light, drawn by the beacon that is the Astronomican, while others stalk the Void, predators in the dark. The Carcharodons have hunted for millennia, but now they are drawn into a new blackness...the Dark City of the drukhari itself. Commorragh. For a thousand years, Chaplain Tangata Manu has searched for a relic lost under his watch: an ancient thing, once charged into the keeping of the Forgotten One himself. But at the brink of seeing his hunt fulfilled and the relic returned, it is stolen from under him.

Constantin Valdor. It is a name that brings forth images of heroism, honour and peerless duty. For it is he who commands the will of the Legio Custodes that most esteemed and dedicated cadre of elite warriors. He is the Emperor’s sword, His shield, His banner and he knows no equal. Clad in shining auramite, his fist clenched around the haft of his Guardian Spear, he is the bulwark against all enemies of the throne, within or without. In the immense city of Varangantua, life is cheap, but mistakes are expensive. When Probator Agusto Zidarov of the city’s enforcers is charged with locating the missing scion of a wealthy family, he knows full well that the chances of finding him alive are slight. The people demanding answers, though, are powerful and ruthless, and he is soon immersed in a world of criminal cartels and corporate warfare where even an enforcer’s survival is far from guaranteed.

Rough start, clean finish
Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.
The Twice Dead King: Reign, once more, curries that brutal, morbid set of tragedies from the previous book, explaining the audience the very definition of the word, 'grimdark', to the fullest of its simplicity.
Heavy the tale full of similes and conjunctions, audiences, young and old alike, would be fallen to the grimmest of fascination from the beginning up until the end as the sequel far exceeded the expectation of anyone who read or listen to this Epic format.
Besides Oltyx, who is far more dour and miserable since he took the crown, the author offered great extended lengths to branch out the characters, albeit through the king's point of view. Crowley has, as always, made the Necrons the underdogs of this situation, searching for a new home from the crusade armada that is the Imperium of Man. Not only does Oltyx needs to deal this outside threat, but also from within as the king would later discover things far worse than imaginable.
Nate Crowley has indeed vindicated himself as a masterful storyteller through the use of well-rounded characters, the pacing from each chapter and the plot that connected the series together. If you are interested to read something that is different and uncommon and refreshing in the Warhammer universe then it is a recommendation worth every expense.
And as for the narrator... there is nothing much to be said about the man. If you are reading this Mr. Reed, your voice is still as clear and crisp and fluid like crystal rain, ever commanding and confident in your vocal pattern.
P.S. I admire the poetic irony that is the engagement between the Necrons and the Astartes, for who better to know obsession than that of Blood.
How did it come to this?
Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.
The climax of the book was a little underwhelming because everything just suddenly worked out too perfectly compared to the struggle the characters had to go through to reach the climax.
However it has really added a lot to the story of the flayed ones and I am excited to see where it goes next.

Firstly, how often there is loss, I read a review about being brow beaten by the writer about how much Oltyx was willing to sacrifice to preserve the dynasty, but I don't think that was the issue, you weren't brow beaten about that. The real brow beating was how much and how often Oltyx was losing on his journey, despite all the praises of the Necron's technological supremacy, they are beaten in by monkeys and "Unclean Filth" who realistically shouldn't be so easily able to harm or damage starships that fought literal GODS, it made more sense as it got into the later chapters but man did it drag, it feels so contradictory and was honestly giving me a bit of a headache towards the end.
The battle at the Catapult, the general issues with the fighting beforehand, how easily humans were beating down literal death machines and winning combats they had no right to win definitely sagged the flowing cape of the ending, it would've felt more satisfying if it wasn't just loss, after loss, after loss, with some intermittent victories which felt minor at best, as if their impact ultimately didn't matter.
The last few chapters were definitely a pallette cleanser, much needed, and it felt earned, how easily the humans fell to the Flayed Ones felt good, but I just wish that it wasn't so bad for the Steel Legions that still had their silver.
Other than that, very good book, 4/5, definitely recommend as a read, despite my own personal gripings with the narrative.
Too Much Loss
Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.
The premise of their flagship being crippled throughout the entire book feels contrived, and the problems that come from it feel un-earned.
The narrative just falls off into grimderp territory honestly.
